Not biting though :) Think Liverpool have been uber lucky this season. Don't like Rodgers. Sometimes you just don't like someone.

Never mind. To be fair, Ings is young, English, and best of all local, so even if he's ****e half the crowd will love him.

We need genuine competition for Boruc in goal if he's out then the replacements are just not good enough for the premiership. I would send Gazziniga out on loan for a year or two he needs regular games to try and restore some confidence.

Another top class defender to rotate with Fonte and Lovren is also a must with Yoshida as back up. Hooiveld is coming in to the last year of his contract and needs to be moved on as he is simply not good enough.

With the sale of Osvaldo a more mobile goalscorer is needed, who can get in behind defences. The difference the pace of Gallagher gave us against Arsenal brought a new and more dangerous edge to the way we play.

If the funds can stretch far enough then another attacking midfielder would add to the balance of the squad. Someone who can run with the ball at pace to allow us to occasionally rest JRod or Lallana without changing the dynamic of the team. With Guly going whatever you may think of him he needs replacing.

The truth will out... as they say. You started with "don't rate" and ended with "don't like"

Not aimed at you so much Imp, but this is a classic example of something that happens a lot with football fans. The liking factor affects the rating factor.

You're picking points now. like / rate. In the wording really. I mean the same in that regard. Don't like him, don't rate him and I don't buy into the hype the media build around him.

On the other hand I do like Wanyama, I don't rate him as highly as others do but I think he's decent enough for a middling side. Maybe because I do like him he is actually only good enough for a lower PL side? I don't think so. He's good enough for where we are at the moment but IMO not good enough for where we wanted to be nor where we want to go. I don't think Cork is good enough for where we want to go either and I really like him :)

Do you think Rodgers would have Saints in 8th? And in reverse do you think Poch would have had Liverpool doing better?

Despite what some people think, I believe that with the obvious exception of Lovren, our big money signings have been poor. I know it has been said that their very presence, "raises the bar" and that may be true but it is an expensive way to improve the players already at the club.

By contrast, by buying good players from teams at a similar level, and at sensible prices, we generally do well; Lambert, Rodriguez, Davis, Fonte, Puncheon etc. I reckon there are good English players out there who, with exposure to some top coaching, could break through to the next level. Add a couple of these to our youngsters breaking through and we could have a decent team.

Remember when we were desperate to sign a left back and we were gutted when we couldn't get Buttner!? Had we got him, Shaw could still be an under 21 player. Similarly, we were all shouting for a back-up right back which probably would have restricted Chambers' progress.

I realise that we need a balance and if a top quality player becomes available at the right price we should probably go for him. Nonetheless, I like the idea of a more home-grown strategy.

Usually, it is the way of things. Players will improve with better players around them. If they don't they are moved on and replaced with other fillers or key better players. To say that our big money signings have been poor is a bit of a general coverall statement though. Rodriguez was iffy in his first season, but has been steadily improving. Wanyama was very good indeed from the word go, but has been dogged by a couple of injuries, a slightly inconsistent concentration level on the pitch, and a hugely improving Jack Cork. Lovren has been excellent up until now. Ramirez has been delightful on occasion, but hasn't quite made the right headlines so far, and Osvaldo was a let down, save for one or two bits of brilliance. Hardly, everyone has been poor, save Lovren.

As to another general statement, we weren't ALL shouting for Buttner or a replacement RB either. Some were, I grant you.

If the reality is going to match the ambition, then Saints are going to have to acquire a few top players. It's good that Lovren and Wanyama are quite settled because they turn heads. Nobody sensible will look at Osvaldo's adventure and think that the club are at fault there. Great players attract more great players. Also, there's no two ways about it, great players improve lesser players by being amongst them. We need a couple more great players in order to improve the ones we already have. It'll help the kids even more than the older ones.

To be honest I neither like or dislike Rodgers, but I have been impressed with what he is doing with Liverpool. I can't answer the second part, it's a bit like people saying Vic's first ten games don't count, because we will never know how Corkie would have done <ok>

I'd say of the 4 big ones, two have been good and two not worked. I am sure that someone around here said something about recruitment being 50:50 <whistle>

Considering the state of Liverpool after Rafa left, i'd say Rodgers has done a great job. They're playing some attractive football at the moment. Everytime I see Coutinho I think of what might have been for us. That sort of incisive forward passing from midfield is what we need.

As for Saints...Guly, Hooiveld & Osvaldo out

What chance a return for Mayuka?

By my reckoning that gives us about 14 players over 21, so i wouldn't be against the idea of bringing in someone with a little more experience.

I think a lot can depend on promotion and relegation as to who becomes available. I will try not to repeat names from other posts, but I think Craig Noone is a talented player. Will Buckley has a little bit about him. Nhaki Wells may well need a season in the championship, but looks a talented lad.

A close eye on the Tottenham squad I think would be advisable. If they're willing to sell Holtby then I'd hope we would be in the queue.

I would like Jean Armel Kana-Biyik, as Lovren's partner.
