spineless drivel - you're the sort of person who would have sat back if Hitler had invaded England and said - 'well he owns it, he can do what he likes, who cares if it's now called Saxonland - i'm ok, who cares that some people don't like it' - bit of a joke really aren't you
I hear businessmen and politicians "making things clear" every day of the week, but that means nothing. AA is playing poker and waiting to see if the supporters crumble, but if he can't sell replica kits with Hull Tigers on the back he will have to come to the table.
before you shoot this comment down, just think about it a second. I'd say I have to agree, liking Hull is not cool. We were getting up there when we hosted concerts like Arctic Monkeys and had a successful team in the premiership. Our win yesterday has made the press dahn sarf kinda sit up and notice us. why is it that the likes of Manchester is cool to like? it is cos of the success of the football teams as well as the MEN arena.
as I said on a previous thread, I wouldn't mind us changing just to see what happens. I quite like the name of Hull City Tigers, mind you as for Hull Tigers? the jury is still out. I still think it has been ill-advised, there are several other ways that AA can protest against the councils involvement with our football club.
A big reason is the high student population. Students go to Manchester from all over the country (and further) and no doubt go back and sing its praises to their families and friends. A reputation soon grows and a City will improve it's nightlife to accommodate a high student population which in turn gives the city a "cool" label. Hulls students are mainly local so the city doesn't benefit in this way.
So far, nobody seems in favour of the name of Hull Tigers. Some would accept Hull City Tigers, although it's not on offer. What I wonder, is why then some posters seem to be trying hard to undermine any protest?
Because he can't sell kits with a name on the back that will be stigmatic to anyone who wears them. Can you imagine how much stick anyone would get wearing a Hull Tigers kit? The plain truth is this decision will stand or fall for business reasons and if the cash for kits isn't coming in AA will have to get the fans on his side - hence a compromise.
This is too easily discounted; a simple point but a very good one. As for having to produce evidence of what a name change will produce, surely that's just being selective in an argument. I would like to see (honest) any evidence that can support either pole of the argument for a newly promoted, reasonably secure, PL club to change it's name; are there any precedents? I don't like it, but at the end of the day the owner has a hunch and he is backing it and I nothing to show that will factually say he is wrong - has anyone on here? (other than opinion, that is)
By that point it would be way too late. I doubt very much by that point there's be any thought at all of a compromise. The change needs to be addressed before it happens any further than it has. But this is drifting back to the conversation on the other threads. This thread is simply for those not opposed to the name change, to offer their considered reasons why they feel that way. The reasons why some feel it won't work have been posted on many threads, this is for the other views to have the floor. As I've said previously, the onus is on those making the positive claim to prove their case. How will a name change benefit Hull City AFC?
IF we get into Europe and he changes the name to coincide, football fans are that fickle that they will wear Hull Tigers tops just to celebrate.
And then when we come out, those same fickle ones will **** off again, and the hard core will have dwindled having been alienated. As I keep asking, where is the evidence to say the name change will benefit Hull City AFC? This is the thread for those against the protest to justify their position.
All you need is a petition backed by the vast majority of supporters saying the sales of any kit with the name Hull Tigers will be boycotted. These people have to forecast good future sales figures as well as current ones and even the threat of a boycott will be enough to make them **** themselves.
that is because Hull is not a cool place to be. Not YET anyhow.. mind you WHEN we win the City Of Culture 2017. Things will start changing in Hull.
