If we sold him that late on, we will struggle to find replacements in such a short space of time unless we panic buy and throw money - i.e. Carroll.

We were probably expecting Real to put in a bid this summer but it hasn't come.

As much as the club have said they don't want to sell to a rival, money talks and we are waiting for a bid of £55m. If Arsenal bid this, then I'm confident we would sell. Selling to a rival for £40m which is massively short of our valuation is not good business. And as we have seen from Suarez during pre-season, he may be unhappy but he still puts in a shift and I expect him to do so over the course of the season should he stay.

Look this is REALLY simple... arsenal to go f themselves... Real madrid can have him for 35mil on aug 31.

LFC now have OPTIONS. We have aspas who looked better v olympiakos though thats not fabulous. we have coutinho and sturridge so there is NO reason to go waste the money on the last day if the right guy aint there. It was panic when we were in relegation danger due to hodgson. we didn't back suarez and bought carroll in a flap.

Oh and city and spurs have shown that digging in and knocking sense into a player is good for both parties. Spurs got modric off for the fee they wanted and modric got his grass is not always greener move to real. city held tevez and he crawled back and played a big part in thier league title. just cos they then held him too long doesn't mean anyhting here.

In short LFC need to dig in and hold on til the deal is right. Next summer = WC. If Uruguay are there then this guy will be worth 55mil in the end... someone will pay it no question.

Do you really think our management are blithely ignorant of this scenario and it's going to come as a shock to them on the 31st?
We panicked a bit when Torres left but things have changed now and we're all fully aware of the possibilities.

As mito says above, it seems like we've been quietly building a team to hold it's own with or without Suarez so we won't have our hand forced at the last minute. We might choose to sell him because we consider it good business, but he hasn't got us over a barrel as much as you seem to want to think.

Of course he would like a move to Real Madrid or a similar club.

The Arsenal link is just a mutually-beneficial ploy. Suarez incereases his attractiveness by having a suitor, and Wenger gets to pretend he's willing to spend money. Suarez doesn't really want Arsenal.

I don't care where he goes so long as we get our fifty-two million pounds.

Of course LFC will turn down £40m, it's not even a difficult decision.

Yes chaps, it was a rhetorical question. My point being that if it's such a 'dream' move, then surely he and and his agent will forego his cut, or get Arsenal to pay it? I do hope that when Luis does go - and he will, let's be frank - the club have the balls to force him to do a written transfer request AND ensure all agents' fees are paid by the buying club. Don't know if we did that over Torres, but we should have done.

Anyone know, by standard, what his agent's cut will be on this deal and who will pay it?

Guardiola has misinterpreted that he gets 24 goats 15 sheep 100 sacks of grain 10 horses and carts and a virgin, his dowry for marrying off Suarez

"Suarez camp" "source believed to be close to the player" "Those close to Suarez" ect ect. Pretty much magical sources to justify journo "gut feelings" which have been brought on by a cheap lunch at McDonalds

The exact same thing is happening with Rooney at the minute.

It is, but you'd be naïve to think that these stories are merely down to press hawking. All sides in these situations use the press to get their message out there. Rooney's today about the other players tuning on him, was a prime example, that was 100% put out there deliberately by his camp.

  11. How do you know that? Maybe the other bidding clubs decided to keep it discreet <whistle>

True that but.. which are true and which are not? a difficult question to answer.

I do not doubt that Wenger was told there was a clause, that did not exist. Only Guardiola could have put that out there, but it is not impossible he did it of his own accord

I think the salient point is that very few of the mainstream sports journo's simply make **** up. They're fed it by numerous sources, who have vastly varied agendas.

In these major transfer wrangles there's agents, managers, club PR people, players & even board members feeding the hacks!

Which only goes to show just how poor the standard of journalism is on our sports pages.

You really believe that with Liverpool acting all desperate and that amateur Rodgers not being able to pipe down? Come on man.

Not really, the sports media rely on the participants in order to fill their back pages, the participants use the media to their own ends - it's a symbiotic relationship. No amount of 'journalism' will change the status quo either, as it suits all concerned.

Yep. Agreed. That's why Suarez is so keen to stay at Liverpool. All the 'ambition' he smells when he wakes up in the morning.
