There's also the possibility that this coming season for him might not be as epic as the one just gone. In one sense that's a good thing but for all we know his feet might not be firing the same. Cue inevitable Monty Python quote: 'He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!'
£40M is his value. By bidding an extra pound we have already gone over the odds. We will probably have to pay £50M to sign him although you never know, it might be less as many outlets are now claiming he is preparing legal action against LFC and the Guardian are claiming he will not travel to Norway as he picked up a mystery injury vs Olympiakos (was able to train today though ).
How many times does it have to be said. You were scooped not based on the idea that there was speculation in the press about a release clause, not even that you offered a very very specific amount. It Was the fact that it was the wrong amount based on the wrong interpretation of the clause by his agent. Not only underhand but uselessly so. You're like Dr Evil and his one million dollars. All we did was laugh at you. Now you're doing the equivalent of running around telling everyone the big boys in red are mean.Awh Shucks
You're definitely on a wind up mission. When in the modern transfer market does a club's opening bid (especially for a big player) ever land that player? The first bid is the beginning of negotiations where the fee goes one way, up.
ESPN think Arsenal have been given permission to speak with him, maybe the clause has been mis-interpreted by pool? http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/video_audio/227775.html?genre=1;sport=3
Just as a point of accuracy though, it has been Rodgers who has been running around bleating about Arsenal not playing fair
Perhaps that is because Arsenal were stupid enough to make a specific bid so as to trigger a clause that they could only know about via one of the parties to the contract - and we know that would not have been LFC. Perhaps because Wenger is still trying to insinuate that negotiations are on-going when in fact there never have been any negotiations.
The value is set by the buying club, if Arsenal walk away at £40mil+1 then you are stuck with a very unhappy player who does not want to be there and nobody else seems remotely interested. I guess you could say Liverpool value him more than Arsenal though.
The VALUE is set by the agreement of both clubs. Now if we are stuck with a very unhappy player then that's LFC's problem - not yours and not mine and certainly not Arsenal's
Honestly, why do people keep banging on about this? Why not wait and see what happens rather than pretending you're Mystic Meg?
As Arsenal are the only club who have made a bid and with Suarez angling to force a move, Liverpool's negotiating stance is weakened, and this is why we're seeing the comments from Rodgers about not playing fair. Don't get me wrong, I don't envy his position, he's rightly trying to hang on to his best player, and knowing he wants out, is trying to get the best price for him. I know, because our club has had to deal with this **** for years, whether it's Utd, City, Barca or Real.
