I haven't been on all of the quotes on all of this. About two weeks ago I just gave up on it and what happens will happen so can say I don't know what is all going on with this "professional" stuff. I am not sure if it is the 1 pound thing that got everyone ticked off or what but I think it is clear we don't want to sell unless it is Real, Bayern, Barca and for at least 50. If only we had the funds that PSG do as when Barca came calling a 2-3rd time for Silva they said if they come for him again, they will activate Messi's release clause ( which is like 240 million or something like that) !!!! Ah well, we shall see soon what happens ( I hope) and that it is not last minute.
Selling Torres to Chelsea didn't strengthen them it didn't weaken us either. Selling Suarez to Arsenal would strengthen them but also wouldn't weaken us either, if we get quality replacement.
Wait what? I agree Torres didn't light it up ( still hasn't) at Chelsea but before he left he was showing signs of life again. Torres and Suarez would have been awesome and COULD have proved the difference on the CL or a trophy here or there. Also it weakened us because it meant we bought Carroll.
Bitter and Smug at the same time? Strange. One, in this context would indicate a resentment to a situation out of our control and the other an arrogance borne of the knowledge we are completely in control of the situation. Surely one or the other? And please why are you answering with your (incorrect based on the posts I've read) perception of our exaggeration of how close we are to 4th with an exaggeration of your own? A million miles, despite the clumsiness of the expression is just silly. We were a number of games away from 4th and quite rightly last year the results against those above us probably did it. I'm not one to buy into bad luck. We hardly gathered the points against you all so came below you. So if we say you buy nobody and we keep Suarez as well as our additions in this window we can assume we'll be closer to you. Obviously it's a guess but an educated one. I personally believe you will buy, I assume to improve so it may well be irrelevant. That's what the next 38 games decide isn't it? Giving you Suarez regardless of price with no replacement will with another educated guess hurt our target of catching & over taking you. It's not that hard to comprehend. As for your reaction to our management: you know it's their job right? You also know that while it may not be proved to the point you get fined, the whole world and his dog knows you've been talking to his agent and made it as clear without admitting it with that very specific bid. And you expected a classy response? Wenger may bleat sheep like but he's as Wiley & ungracious as any other manager who doesn't get their way. Why should ours turn the other cheek? You've acted shabbily as a club and been called on it. Alls fair...we've done the same in the past but were just stupid enough to get caught. As for pundits ex LFC or not (you did read the exact same comments from Ian Wright didn't you) I didn't miss where he played for us did I? They are doing what they always do, getting their names in the media to keep their profiles up. The fact that blow me our ex players might be a smidgen biased towards us? I truly hope that this is it: that a daft mistake in believing a dirty underhand agent has cost you other targets, that unhappy or not he doesn't go to you and that we (preferably) or more likely Spurs bounce you out of that 4th spot because our response might have been ungracious but your the daft club that actually mucked up being underhand. Next time get the agent to give you a copy of the contract to give to your lawyers instead of trusting a guy translating it in his head.
But who was the idiot at arsenal who thought that a bid of £1 over £40 million wouldn't piss people off and antagonise people at Liverpool. And yes I absolutely agree with what they are doing. Why should we sell, we have no reason to. 3 year contract,no transfer request and selling to a team just above you...where would the sense in that be. I think that Suarez will stay unless Real come in if they don't get Bale. And even then it should be an offer close to bales as they were the best two players in the premiership last year with little to choose between them other than suarez's indiscretions. Arsenal thought they could get him cheap and wenger is too tight fisted to up the ante and show you arsenal supporters that he is really serious. As it stands he has done just enough to make it look like he was serious without actually committing to the deal and now gooner fans like you are blaming Liverpool ! Think back to last season don't tell me you wouldn't have wanted wenger to play hardball over RVP if the situation had been different
Why do people focus on the £1 and not the £40M that comes with it? It is hardly ****ing cheap, you ignore then £50M spent on Torres and it is a ****ing premiership record transfer fee. Arsenal have acted in class throughout, Wenger has said nothing, the club has said nothing, even ex players have said nothing. It is the polar opposite to Liverpool who have one of Rodgers or Ian Ayre running their mouth about Arsenal and how we are responsible for the Holocaust, World War 2 and Liverpools 20+ years without a league trophy, and the odd time they take a day off you get ex players in the media saying Arsenal aren't good enough for him (but for some reason LFC are). I really don't see how anybody can complain about our pursuit of Suarez or the manner in which we are doing it. Everything his been done privately, everything has been done by the book. So what if we haven't stumped up £55M or whatever it is you want for him. It is called bargaining, have you lot forgotten the £12.5M bid you put in for him back in January 2011. He went for like ****ing double that.
It's very amusing to think that Arsenal fans are absolutely certain nothing underhand has gone on even though they have absolutely no idea themselves. Explaining it away that it was public knowledge that Suarez had a 40+1 clause when in fact the only one's who thought that was the case was Suarez and his agent. A clause that did not in fact exist at all
Shows what a classless person you are, you have no idea, you are just blathering on about stuff you have no idea about, ridiculous! You talk like you work at the club
Guess you'll have to double the opening bid then Maybe people focus on the £1 because its a obscure amount and just activates what was suppose to be a private clause
Ahhh there's none so blind who cannot see! It's the £1 that gives it all away..the fact that arsenal have been sounding out the agent about a supposed release clause. I don't call that class. Also please try and get your facts right about ex players. Have you not read the comments from Ian Wright..yes that's the same Ian Wright who graced the pitch at Highbury playing for arsenal! Nobody is complaining about you pursuing Suarez or the fact of negotiating. Arsenal make an offer liverpool say its not enough, arsenal sit on their hands and say to their fans "well at least we tried" and you lot think "wow we really tried to buy a world class player" when wenger knows there is no way you will get him for that amount. Negotiating means finding common ground but as Liverpool are in a postion of strength and have no need to sell Suarez, then it's up to arsenal to make the next move....but they won't. Yes we did bid 12.5mill for Suarez and ended up paying nearly double. So there's your answer, increase the bid to £70 million and you might have more success.
There is no proof anything 'underhand' has gone on so why are you crying about it? All the over rumors in the media are complete bullshit but nooooooooooooooooooooooo when there is the slightest indication that Arsenal might have done something underhand there bust be an element of truth in it. Because your manager, cheif executive and owner won't shut the **** up. Quit your fake outrage. Everything in this comment is foundationless speculation, which is all you lot seem to be grasping at these days. The bitterness among you is pathetic. Really you should all grow up.
"Yes we did bid 12.5mill for Suarez and ended up paying nearly double. So there's your answer, increase the bid to £70 million and you might have more success." Well said, we might have played games, but at least we had the decency to match Ajax's valuation when I think it was their manager complained we were nowhere near. Arsene seems intent to want to get him at £20million+ below his value.
To be fair you Arsenal fans are the ones who keep coming back to this thread on the LFC forum for more of the same.
I think Arsenal are becoming a bit obsessed about this. It's as though they think Suarez is definitely the one thing they need to make them title contenders and must have him. Suarez is a great player and great entertainment value but if they think he's the Messiah I think they might be in for a rude awakening.
