I wonder if there’s a stat for teams who out crosses into the box and find areas with no one in them or never find a teammate. If we get to the line and cut it back, it finds a defender or runs into nowhere. If Cole crosses from deep if goes over everyone or we crops into the box with no teamates there
I remember posting what the Watford commentators said against them hull are one nil down and don’t seem to realise that they’re just passing it around offering no threat for the last 25 minutes. ok it was at nil nil here But first half fair enough Don’t concede but after the break we are the home team Have a ****ing go And our whole strategy seemed to be pass it around pass it around then launch it and let Joseph chase it he’s getting a lot of stick but **** me I’ve no idea how good or bad he is in this system? Unless Selles alters the playing style it won’t matter who is up there
For me that ties in with Regans interview a few weeks ago, when he said we wouldn’t drop into the bottom 3 and we needed all the players to come together and the characters in the dressing room to stand up. I’m thinking Regan what planet are you on
I'm not sure it's quite as simple as just a selection decision, but Selles is certainly the man responsible for the drop in performance of the team over the last few weeks. I don't think Joseph is the issue at all, he just doesn't get the ball. I can't remember him ever really having chances to score since he joined, and Pedro barely gets any either. But I agree it is strange to have someone with the quality in front of goal of Pedro sat on the bench lately when we're so short of attacking threat. Same with Crooks - he was never graceful but he looked a real threat when he first arrived, and now like so many of our signings he's sat on the bench picking up a wage but not considered good enough to help us. I wonder if there's something going on or gone on with people like those two because it seems very strange to be suffering from such a lack of threat and still leaving out these players who can offer it.
This has annoyed me for ages, even last season. I don't know how it's so hard to ever have an attacker get anywhere near those. Yesterday there was one where Amrabat broke through from halfway and ended up on the floor on the edge of the box, Gelhardt picked up the ball on the wing, beat his man, got to the by line and rolled it across and somehow no one was there. I haven't seen a replay but I don't understand how Joseph wasn't there, he'd not been involved in the buildup at all, but also Amrabat who'd been floored in the previous stage, surely he should've been in the perfect position to attack it after getting up, but somehow no, as always it just rolled beyond everyone and no City player was on hand.
Well in the cold light of day with a raging hangover what a miserable situation we are in. We seem to have been beaten one to nil so many times or is that just me. We have lost at home by one goal to our rivals when one goal would have given us a draw and we would not have been in this lousy position. This has been a **** show of a season in so many ways. Poor choices by the management in appointing unknown managers when there were several steady candidates available both times. Bad injuries to key attacking players who would have made a real difference up front. Betting on potential rather than proven performers. Lack of investment in a real number 9, a common theme now. The only light out there has been the performance of Pandur who has been great and Hughes who also looks good for the future but can we keep them. I could mention a couple of others but the reality is we could have replaced half the team with better quality. Can we get a miracle next week, a win would keep us up. It’s possible but the reality is we have sleeping walked into this situation and we are now reliant on one game. I really hope we can make it and rebuild but in all honesty I feel resigned to another hangover next week and more disappointment. One brill performance and a win is all I am asking for, not too much eh ! It’s the hope that kills you.
This isn’t a defence of his tactics, but I feel we’ve had two clear approaches under Sellés. The first is that we go hell for leather for 10–20 minutes hoping for an early goal and then intentionally being the intensity down to make sure we limit “actions” (as he refers to them) and don’t concede, and the second is the opposite, hence the late subs. At the moment, with our squad, I believe he sees our offensive play as something that could lead to an opportunity for our opponents due to our lack off genuine threat.
he had the January window to sort the lack of threat?? That’s the problem Identify what’s lacking in your squad and rectify it He hasn’t And his playing style isn’t giving anyone a chance to score goals
I definitely think it's something that could have been addressed by tactics and selection yesterday, I just don't understand why a player who has not scored all season would be picked for a must win match. Derby were poor and there to be had . I totally agree about Crooks, he might have given us a bit of presence we were lacking on the pitch.
I already said on here I wasn't singling him out. No problem if you didn't see that . It's not his fault it was the managers fault for the tactics and picking him in that situation .
The best and most experienced manager he's had is the one he sacked as soon as he walked into the building.
It’s ok setting your team out for a tight game without conceding goals, however when your team has no threat or the manager has no plan to score a goal you are going to be in trouble. It’s felt like this for about two years. Thus lies the problem for the last 2/3 seasons. All this Pep induced keep the ball rubbish doesn’t allow the opposition to have the ball, meaning your chances of conceding a goal are 20/30% less. When we had a threat on the wings, it was keep the ball and pass it to the wingers and hope they do something. Now we have no threats it’s up to the manager to use the players as best he can to produce something. Selles has been sucked into keeping it tight and knicking a goal. But yesterday that wasn’t what was needed. We should have had a go, get the crowd on side and get the place rocking. The team selection was fine, but the subs stank the place out. Not bringing on someone who’s scored nearly 100 Serie A goals in his career till the 88th minute for a guy who hasn’t scored in 13-14 games was pathetic and shot shy. We still aren’t out of this by any stretch, but if Selles offers up this turgid mess again we are in trouble. Something needs to change urgently. More worryingly for next season whatever Division we are in, if we have such manager that’s scared to make decisions and take the game by the scruff of the neck we are a walking disaster, without taking into consideration our ownership, which is even more ambiguous at this moment.
Joseph's been chucked under the bus, shocking imo. From doing ok in L1, showing promise, he's been dumped into a struggling Championship side with what looks like no guidance, support or mentoring. We should have done with him what Brentford did with KLP.
