I hope that’s not true. We needed a forward but spent a shed load on a keeper, who was never going to be the difference of staying up / going down. If that’s true, we’ll be pissed more £M down the drain. Nah, can’t believe it, the more I think about.
 
Would assume the release clause is set around the same mark as what we paid.

Exactly this. Imagine if we paid £20m, had a release clause of £15m and actually stayed up. we'd be mad to sell. Yes it may be slightly geared towards the division we are on, but we wouldn't lose money.

It will be a relegation release clause - activated only in the event we go down.

Whilst the club would of course have wanted it to be at least the same price we paid for him, if his team insisted on a few million less then we would have likely signed if it was the difference between signing him or not.

Wasn't that how we signed (and sold) Alcaraz and some of the City boys? Not sure if there's a bit of a conflict of interests there, or whether it was something we were using before (mind, I loved Alcaraz so I can forgive a little bit that one)
