Think this might be best for all parties. Who knows, he might come back in the summer and fight for his place.

You'd like to think he would come back and fight for his place. That's how often it used to work, but with first team players these days, I can't think of any recent examples with us where this has happened.

Longman appeared like he might buck that trend, but then was sold.

Yep, and if Selles is going to trim down the squad, whilst presumably adding some new players he wants, it's hard to see how there'll suddenly be room for Ömür that there isn't now.

I suppose if we're expecting Palmer, Sinik, Henrique, Amrabat all to leave and we don't necessarily want to have to replace their minutes (Sinik minutes? LOL), there's a spot for Omur somewhere.

My thinking too. Lincoln and Amrabat are stop-gaps. Gelhardt possibly too as there's no option or guarantee we'll sign him permanently.

Palmer and Mehlem I imagine will be gone in the summer permanently too. Come next summer our midfield will include Alzate, maybe Zambrano, Slater, hopefully Puerta, Crooks and Matazo. Our wide options will be Belloumi, Millar, Kamara and possibly Barry if we can agree to a full-season loan. There will be competition, especially in midfield, but that doesn't mean there isn't a place for Ömür either out wide or in midfield.

I also don't hold to the argument that Ömür's best position is necessarily in the centre. His contract is until 2027. If we can save money by keeping him in the squad instead of selling him at a loss and spending more money on a replacement, we should.

Yeah I'm happy there's no buy option. I know it's cliché but there's a player there but maybe he'd perform in a better team than what we have currently and a fresh start at pre season helps.
