Imo we needed to sell , I think Jack wants premier league football and wants to go(best of luck to him) ,the owner will invest the money into the squad and hopefully scouts and speakman have identified players to buy or already at the club and we move on.
Personally I'm happy with the way the clubs run were making money and improving the squad

Some people cant see the big picture

Clarke has been brilliant for us but was always going to go at some time. The fee seems a tad small but it may be that the sell on clause will actually inflate it in time. Reading about Isidore its clear that wide left is a position that he has excelled in and will Simic hopefully coming in we could be well placed. In some ways the most disappointing thing is that Clarke has gone to a club that will surely go straight down. I actually like Ipswich but you have to feel that Harte has whispered in Clarke's ear and told him to get to the Premier League and then get a move to a bigger club next year. I think we all wish Jack Clarke well but I can't help feel he could have got a better move than this to the likes of West Ham or Crystal Palace etc.
The fear is that Clarke becomes one of these Sander Berge types who signs for big money for low end clubs every summer. Ipswich come down, so Leeds buy him back next summer. Leeds go down, then he goes to Luton etc etc

I keep seeing posters saying we've massively undervalued him and should have "held out for £25m" as if it like selling home shirts to the highest bidder.

I'm holding out for a booty call from Scarlett Johansson.

Any day now I tell you......

So the situation is this.

Clarke wants to go to the PL, the club say they'll consider offers and various clubs make bids.

Ipswich are the highest bidders.

Sunderland tell them they're 'holding out for more'.

We aren't offered more, Ipswich go elsewhere and Clarke is left to pick himself up.

In the meantime that '£25m' we wanted is now like sand in an egg timer and we can't sign other players.

Yes, what a great plan ...

... some people couldn't negotiate a pay rise, at their office job, but know big business inside out <doh>

Did anyone see that it was confirmed in the Roker report article that we have an obligation to buy Isidor and it’s €4m

Interesting the zenit fans comments on isidor being better on the left

Wonder if he will come in to challenge mundle on the left, poveda n roberts on the right n then Ba to cover both

Then wr look at signing mendy n simic

That's the way I see it mate. We'll know soon enough. Onwards and upwards.

Yeah, a lot of successful CEOs on this forum and twitter who know far better than the folk in charge of SAFC

I will be very sad to see him go, but it is what KLD said he would do; making the club sustainable means selling players for profit.

Sunderland are still a much more exciting club than before KLD arrived. We are still a club that haven't sold their soul (looks up the road here).

If we had refused to let Clarke go then, as well as eventually missing out on any transfer fee as his contract ran out, we would be sending out a message to other young players that coming here could lead to a stall in their career progression.

Doesn’t seem unreasonable that. I’m comfortable with him on basis that Reg has chased him before.

Doesn’t feel like a punt. Also, ****s on the theory that gaffer has no transfer clout.
