I’m not against people criticising the club mate, have done so many times myself. Facts are we all hoped Stewart was gonna stay until the point he left, we took Simms on loan. We couldn’t buy a second striker when we had a prolific one of any real standard as when Stewart got they weren’t kicking a ball. It is not 4 windows, however you spin it. 4 windows ago we signed Simms. Realistically, this is the second window without a ‘main man’ and it’s not closed yet.
Believe me mate I’ll be ****ing fuming if we don’t get one this window cos it’s likely cost us the season. I’m remaining serene for now, and I’m certainly not gonna embellish the truth for it. The 4 windows thing was likely started by some gobshite and jumped on by a load of ‘X fans’, and somehow became seen as fact.
Fully stand by my belief that a sum in the ballpark of 17m-20m coming into the club is too good to turn down and is nothing but an opportunity to push on, especially for a team that doesn't have too many holes in the squad. Two forwards, a DM, a CB and a RB alongside a loan winger signed with the Clarke money would improve us.
That’s the difficulty, the sell on clause. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to say to Leeds we want north of 20 mind.
This window, last January, last summer and arguably the previous January are the four referred to. Simms was the one before that. We have since signed Geldhart and Burstow on loan as well as Rusyn Hemir and Mayenda permanently. Obviously they haven’t really been good enough although Geldhart did a job. The frustration and time period people refer to are fair to be honest but the idea we haven’t tried and that it’s just penny pinching isn’t IMO.
Simms was summer window 22. So winter 22, summer 23, winter 23…. This one is open. Agree with you though. Any one of those COULD have come off and folk be whinging about a back up corner flag or summat.
I can’t see a championship club paying 25 milllon for a player, especially when they have just had to sell. I think Clarke will stay till at least January
It is getting close to being too late to sell Clarke now for me. I agree money coming in is needed, but we have little time to spend it this window. It would also need to be a big % up front, not staged, or we are likely to be worse off this season. Tricky timing for me. Once we are into last week of window it would be a no sale situation for me.
Absolutely but it is the 4th window and the mythical senior striker hasn’t appeared yet. I get the frustration, just think it’s a bit disproportionate. If we don’t do something in the next two weeks though I think it would be justified.
Mundle with a run of games can easily get up to standard. Clarke himself was hardly world beating when we got him.
Aye. He is raw but the only way you work around that is playing. He is quick and direct and I could see him stepping up quite quickly with a run.
Aye. It’s pointless trying to replace Clarke for a player just as good. Mundle will be fine. Important the money is used to strengthen elsewhere (in the obvious position)
