Watkins against tired legs definitely makes sense but I also see the point for starting him. This is the problem sometimes when you’ve got so much talent good players get left out. It’s not just England in this situation, all of the better nations have quality on the bench.

It’s all about utilising the squad and realistically most managers in his situation are going to start their best players. I don’t really like the bloke but you can’t knock him for not dropping his captain who’s just off the back of a season in which he’s scored about 50 goals in all competitions.

Not a chance I’d be starting Kane to be honest. We have to get this right from the off because Spain are much better than anyone so far.Fair play to him so far but he needs to have some balls.

If you think Southgate can magically flick a switch and get his team playing a completely different style to what we've seen since he qualified, not just the last three games then you've got a hell of a lot more faith in him than I have.

We were the better team in the first half, because we moved the ball quickly and went at them. Second half was more even but I never felt they were going to get a second.

We have been poor for most of this tournament, but we are in the final and in years to come all anybody will see are the results. That in the end is all that counts.

The difference is that Watkins/Toney exist to serve the team ...

... whereas, with Kane in the side, the team exists to serve him.

Watched the game in a pub in Kentish Town, was largely students who appeared to know nowt about football but the atmosphere was class all the same. Absolutely the best way to win a game of football
