I don’t blame Tim. He’s new to the situation and handled it well media wise so far. It’s those from above him saying we aren’t a selling club and aren’t in danger of FFP one week to then suddenly the boat changes and we need to wheel and deal.

We all knew the latter was likely but the openness of the owners caused misinformation. Is it what it is now.

If they turn this window into one where they sign a bunch of good permanent signings that build a core squad I’ll change my tune. Till then I’m really sceptical given our past windows

Rudoni's certainly a big one, Binks was already there last season they just made his loan permanent, Mason-Clark was also signed last season (but left at Peterborough on loan for the rest of the season) and they've signed a youth prospect from Australia. Not much new business really.

I spoke to someone that goes on botanic away days the day of the Rosenior’s sacking and day after. The 180 flip of his opinion still gives me whiplash

Fair point but it’s still a damn lot more than we are doing right now. I’d be a lot more confident if something was close but allegedly we’re at least 2 weeks away with the likelihood is players are going to leave before some come in.

Also, just because the window opened on June 14th doesn’t mean we can’t do business before then. You can agree fees and terms and sign contracts outside of transfer windows. They just officially join when the window opens. The fact Giles still hasn’t signed and the nature of his loan option/obligation/whatever is as clear as mud is just weird. Either we want him or not.

The turnaround for Allsop and Tufan leaving has been quick. Everything City do seems to go at a ****ing snail’s pace, from kit launches to transfers.

I thought the suggestion was incoming deals would be after July 1st to help with FFP?

And yet on the other hand Nottingham Forest went looking for a new manager halfway through the season when in the relegation zone, turned out well for them.

Probably is the case. Doesn’t change the fact that the rumours normally start knocking about with our club and we’ve got nothing but a Ligue 2 player

Arguably a better time to do it if it has little impact on transfers.

It might turn out well for us too, or it might blow up in our faces. The only thing I'm confident of is that changing manager when we did inevitably made our preparations for the summer grind to a halt, and we have to deal with that. If other clubs were talking to our targets before we even had a manager then that was never going to put us in a good position clearly. Hopefully we considered this as part of our decision, and we're that confident of a significant improvement from the change that it's worth being behind other clubs in our summer work.

The reason the rebuild is so big is because the signings under the Acun tenure haven't been good enough. It's mad how few players are still here from the Summer 22 window.

This summer feels very similar to how it did 2 years ago, there's a lot of room on the wage bill to spend and a big sale or two happening, so it's interesting to see how the money is spent.

Last time it was imports on big money, largely from Turkey, let's see this time.

Nail on the head. And yet we’re here again. If they repeat the same mistakes of signing short term permanent signings mixed in with high profile loans then without promotion we are potentially going round in circles

Anyone still think we didn’t go balls deep for promotion last season ?

    Based on?

Short term high profile loans indicate a team swinging for the fences

Our first signing last season was Xavier Simons on a permanent deal, that was July 1st. If Giles is signing, that’s when he’ll arrive.

A few U21 team signings aside, our first proper permanent first team signing last season was Jason Lokilo on July 18th.

Liam Delap joined 2nd July, then Vingare on the 20th on loan deals.

Aaron Connolly was the next permanent signing on 2nd August.

Last Summer was punctuated by loan signings across the window, with Allsopp and Philogene arriving on deadline day.

It’s currently the 25th of June. This isn’t a “slow” window for us, it’s actually about the same as always.

Some clubs sign players early on, some wait. The benefit of signing players early is getting them into your pre season. However, if you blow your transfer funds early doors, it leaves little room for manoeuvre if the season starts and you realise you need to make a change like we did with Ingram/Allsop.

Leave it late and okay you might have pre season with a thinner squad, but you get a lot more variety in terms of choice, which means we can be more specific and precise with our transfers. We have targets and we’re in talks, but we don’t know who might become available because of other transfers later on.

Coventry are signing a few (but they have money from selling Gykores and Hamer), Boro have a couple in, so do Oxford, Rotherham have already signed like five. Others, like us, haven’t signed anybody.

What matters is the quality, not how many or how quickly. There’s no need to overreact or associate a lack of front of house activity with negativity. We’ve had some potential signings written off before they’ve landed at Hymers.

And let’s face it, even we had signed every player we needed and were good to go July 1st having spent £20m, there would still be people disappointed we didn’t get anybody in on transfer deadline day and Burnsey would still think we needed another striker.

We tried. The target was top 10 with a chance of playoffs, though the media seem to think it was top 6 or bust. It was Rosie who said that, not Acun or Tan.
