Does anyone know what Alex Neil's history is with developing young players and giving them game time? Understandably he went with expirience in our situation to get us up. With a full pre season are we likely to see a lot more of Dan Neil next year for example? Did he bring in any good youngsters from the Prem when he was at Norwich or Preston or are we likely to be in the market for experienced 100+ game players?

Interesting question. I'd imagine though that, with the presence of Speakman and that kind of set up, transfer policy will remain largely the same as it was when Johnson was manager.
Here's a list of players that Alex Neil has signed:

Going through that list it looks like a mix of young talent (20 yrs old) and experienced heads

I didn't realize he signed Madison for Norwich. Ben Godfrey also move to Everton recently and ho obviously signed Pritchard when he was only 22/23 so seems a canny mix. Sergio Canos got regular game time fro Brentford as well this season.

Looks like a good track record doesn't it? He had a guy called Joe Savage as his chief scout/head of recruitment at all of his clubs prior to us so I reckon a lot of it will have been down to him. He's now sporting director at Hearts.

Any rumours doing the rounds about anything to do with us and not the Fleetwood Mac album.

Good mix of foreign and domestic as well. If he needs that fella to come down from Hearts then the hierarchy may find a job for him.

Definitely. If Speakman doesn't work out, Savage might make a perfect replacement!

I was talking about this to a pal earlier, we decided Gayle, Hayden, Murphy and Darlow would all be too signings for the Championship.

Not suggesting we will sign any of them but they’ve such a Championship squad.

That's a fair comment mate. January/February was a bit of a balls up, but recruitment generally has been far better since he came in.

In the short time that he played, Huggins looked head and shoulders above League One level too.

even then we signed Batth, Clarke and Matete.

I don’t think we get promoted without Batth or Clarke. And I think Matete will go on to good things.

A.N. has seen what dan neil can do, whether he thought it was too soon for him to be thrown in or wants to 'bring him on a bit' i have no idea but i feel fairly sure he can spot the talent and has the know how to develop it, maybe if we were several points clear or had lost all chance of promotion/play-offs he might have given him more game time, guess we will see next season.

I agree mate. Out of the two home grown lads, I'd rather we lost Embleton than Dan Neil. There's definitely a very good midfielder in there. He just needs to be nurtured right, get the right players around him and we'll reap the rewards.

I certainly like the look of Scott Twine. League one player of the season, with a lot of assists and goals to boot. If he's available for £1M, I'd take their hands off. We do have a lot of midfielders, but if better players become available at the right price, we shouldn't ignore it. That's how we'll improve the squad.

I agree with others that we shouldn't be looking at more than two current League One players. Camara at Plymouth might be another, but we need to compliment these with a few seasoned top flight/ top of Championship players in their mid-twenties, who would still fetch a price if we were to move further up the ladder.

We definitely need a minimum of 2 strikers. We were left woefully short in that Department this season. Thankfully Rossco didn't get injured, but we can't take that chance again.

    2 Strikers
Back up Full Backs for Cirkin and Huggins
    2 CB's
    1 sitting midfielder
    1 advanced midfielder

Yeah they have and you would imagine a lot would be surplus if they're spending big money in the summer.
