They had no option but to go,they had left us virtually bankrupt.None of us will ever forget getting to the Premier League for the first time but the fact remains that we are in the situation we are at present because of that success? To be clear,Allam hasn't left a lasting impression on me either,he's antagonised us all at times but I didn't see a queue of potential saviours offering to take on the debt.Of course things have went pear shaped and show no sign of easing but to withdraw support of a Club I've supported for 51years is a step too far for me and fans ditching the Club in terms of financial support is hardly a glowing advertisement to a potential buyer. Each to their own of course but I see the Clubs name being sullied from all angles and a potential buyer may be some way off if the spat continues.
Adam was worried around 05 time as season passes had dropped off what’s all this nurturing bollocks It’s a game of football and it’s your local club The passion of our support ebbs and flows like the beach here! Tougher times come and they **** off Always have done and always will
Not having a victory parade afer promotion didn't help in building up the support and a team spirit. Just one easy opportunity missed.
"It's a game of football and it's your local club" ...... Yes, that is how it should be seen. The number of times I spout about 'supporting your local club'. That's how it should be (at least in my world). BUT then there's reality. We have competition from 2 RL sides, a long history of neglect, a region over run with plastics, etc. Hence our support ebbs and flows. It shouldn't, but it does. That's just how it is. And that's why it needs 'nurturing' (insert your own alternative word if it makes you feel better). As a minimum, don't antagonise and piss off your own support - the Allams can't even reach the minimum required, in fact, they come nowhere near reaching it. They therefore continue to reap what they sow.
Talking of perceptions of owners, did you read another excellent article from Martin Samuel in the DM? He was saying that Newcastle fans are extremely hostile to Mike Ashley saying he is holding them back. During Ashley's tenure Newcastle's average position out of the 92 league clubs has been 14th. During the 70 years prior to his arrival it was 17th.
Its frustrating as I dont believe there are any buyers out the who we will actually approve of. All they want is a return on their investment. It's the same with our present owners. If they wanted , I think they could mend this. The majority of city fans are sick of the the ****e that comes with the relationship we presently have with our owners and I for one would love to see a smile and a bit of humility from them and I think they would get that returned. Go on ehab, when we are allowed back to games, turn up in a city shirt and get behind your team. I for one will give you the thumbs up.
The last two owners we potentially could have had, are currently owners of two clubs in the Championship play-off places.
And what of the stay away fans and the lack of revenue going forward due to the 'boycotting' by some. Will they also reap what they sow? After all if we are successful this season(and I have every confidence we will and have all season),will the stay away fans expect to see a squad of Championship players or a group of plodders assembled on a tighter than average budget?
The allams took us back to the premier league thanks to brucie and to a cup final. I remember us booing ehab at Wembley. Success is great but if we are to get on with our owners we have to stop slagging them and they need to relax and show a bit of respect back or the club will get less and less support and end up sunk
They were welcomed with open arms (by 99% plus of us). They then proceeded to **** on us; not just football fans but wider too. Repeatedly. And continue to this day to do the same. Of course they will get 'slagged' and rightly so. The solution is easy .... but impossible for them to do as they know no other way. I would love it if they did a 180 degree turn, admitted they'd made massive mistakes, apologised, rectified the damage they'd done and started a new era of positive engagement. But they can't and they won't. Our support base is shot once again, and will remain so, irrespective of what division we are in next season.
So your expectations are that if we're promoted there'll be circa 5,000,plus away support at home games?
Havent they done most of that? season passes are cheaper now than under Adam 15 years ago! For example
Lee oversaw promotion to the Championship in his first full season at Barnsley, consolidation in the Championship in his second and is now challenging for promotion to the Premier League in his third. I suspect we'd have been fairly happy with that. Dai Yongge has taken longer to get his arse in gear at Reading, but they're still in a far better position than us. Sunderland, Charlton and Wigan have all managed to replace their **** owners this season, which clearly shows there's buyers if the price is right.
-> So your expectations are that if we're promoted there'll be circa 5,000,plus away support at home games? Not far off. More for derbies / more attractive games. Do you not realise our base is now decimated? Getting back to the CCC isn't going to markedly change that. -> Havent they done most of that? season passes are cheaper now than under Adam 15 years ago! For example If they have then I've missed it! (and I haven't missed it). Look, it's all a waste of time debating it on here. And we've been over it numerous times. Like deva ju all over again. Final comment. We are City through and through. Nothing is likely to ever change that (even though at times I sort of wish it would). Most of the population don't think like we do. The Allams have done and continue to do irreparable damage. Things may only change for the better when they finally leave; a risk, but I for one are more than happy to take that risk.
But that’s the Allams fault. Where’s the desire for engagement from them towards the supporters? Where have the community events been? Where’s the reaching out to people who feel wronged? The Allams have the power here, they are the ones that can try and turn it around. They aren’t.
