Found the same if Quinn since he left. Hated him commentating on or pundit at our games.

Phillips was awful. So little congratulations fir SAFC and their performance.

Shearer used to give a more balanced opinion of us on match of the day. For some reason Phillip's is very negative.

Don't forget he had no time for us until he saw us in league 1, struggling to make an impact, owners with very little money, the fact that he is a club legend and in his head he was going to get his first management job so talked about us and wanting the job.

He now gets paid to give his opinion about us so isn't going to turn it down, but he has no love for us.

SKP last night on Sky was a disgrace. He said. well Portsmouth were poor, not that fact that we made them look totally inept. You can see why he has struggled for years too get a good management role, so dour and downbeat all of the time. Not just last night.

Everything he says about us has a "but" at the end of it...
And, tbh, he knows **** all about the club now, despite saying otherwise last last night.

Whenever a great goal is discussed, on Sky/MOTD/whatever, the ex-strikers like Shearer or Wright are like excitable kids even if it's against their own team ...

... but Phillips just couldn't bring himself to say anything good about it.

'The keeper made it easy for him' my arse <doh>

If that was Salah or De Bruyne he would be raving about it.
I thought the keeper put himself in a good position tbh, Jones couldnt just lash it in as he had the angles covered.
The more I watch it the better it gets, absolutely sublime finish really.

Don’t know what his problem is with us, we’ve seen other pros from different areas (ball and Quinn) enthuse about us and others like gabbiadini who just comment on us for the money he receives. I’ve lived through both gabbiadini and Phillips and to me Phillips is going the same way as him about us.

I made this point after the takeover went through, the worst thing about Phillip's is he is wheeled at as an ex-pro who knows the club and it was obvious he hadn't even done 5 minutes research into KLD and what he was about. Just aswell Donald is there for advice him being 23, can't change much while window **** etc...

Proved he is happy to accept the money but can't be arsed to spend 5 minutes preparing for what he is getting paid for.

A lot jumped to his defence at the time but I can see the tide turning.

He can be dour etc if that is him. What is annoying is he is there as the SAFC side of things as he ex player and he talls like he played for the mags for years.

I have thought it for a long time and didn't say much until the takeover talk he was chatting such uninformed nonsense.

As for Jones goal Alan Shearer would have praised him for that finish if he was sat being asked, the keeper closed down the angle and made it a difficult finish for 1 on 1 (so much so if he had saved a shot where jones tried to power it into the bottom corner or summit they would be ****ing over the keeper) but the finish was sublime and 95% of league 1 players would have missed in that position.

Strange bloke is Kev never forget his playing days but ****e as a pundit.

He also said something like, "Well they have the best paid players and the highest wage bill, so they should be walking the league." <laugh><laugh> he's a sour faced bugger, he must suck a few lemons before our games to get in the mood <laugh>

Nothing wrong with commenting as you see things, but you'd think he would be a bit more upbeat about the overall performance. They had precisely 0 shots on target and the penalty shouts were 50:50 IMHO. There may have been a foul before the 2nd goal, but it wasn't our fault their defenders couldn't just lump the ball forward when they had the chance and that finish was absolutely excellent. Last time I was at Pompey was for the play-off 2nd leg and the fans were chanting SKP's name, so I can't imagine why he'd be negative towards the club, unless he had hopes for the manager's job...

The thing that annoyed me most was when he said 'It's all very well Johnson having a philosophy but we just need to be promoted.'

    Just f**k off man.

Sniping for sniping sake I fear with SKP. Hes punditing at the end of the day and they are supposed to not be seen to hold a 'too obvious' bias. Remember when Quinny commentated for Sky? He was similar, almost over critical to downplay any suggestions of favouritism. Shearer does it all the time with the Mags on MOTD, quite often has a pop about something.

Thing is though, he comes out with the ****e he does, then what he says is regurgitated by the press. The chronic even ran a story with his post Portsmouth comments as the match summary....we got lucky according to the article.
Wish he would **** off tbh.

I get the fact that he can't be sitting there in a Sunderland shirt shouting 'In your face Matty Taylor' ...

... but he's just relentlessly negative about us.

Chalking off Jones's goal as 'the keeper made it easy for him' isn't being unbiased.

That goal was top quality, by any standards, and his comments were ridiculous.

"I think the keeper makes it a bit too easy for my liking [for Jordan Jones' goal]."

Phillips certainly didn't mince his words regarding the referee's decision, he said:
"It's a penalty it's as simple as that. He gets the Portsmouth player and follows through. You can't deny it.
When you're in such good form you get that run of good luck along the way and perhaps it's just Sunderland's time at the moment."

That was one of the nicest goals I’ve seen since Dalglish did it for Liverpool about 50 years ago.<laugh>

“It’s a big game for Sunderland,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

What an insight, I'd forgotten we were playing <doh>
