He's right though McGeady is finished at Sunderland. Parkinson has already said as much and although they've downplayed the McDonalds stuff it's true that as soon as it was reported he was kicked out of the club.

From where I see it, Parkinson told him and Maguire to sort themselves out or do one. Maguire has just extended his contract I believe as he promised to work. McGeady, from my perspective, told the gaffer to stick it and that should always be a players cards marked imo.

    Sad for us.

We missed his skills, way above this League and the goals that he would have scored and created for those around him.

It MIGHT well be that for the second season running we got rid of out most effective scorer, and missed out on promotion because of it.

I know that most put his move down to press reports but I wonder if this shooting ourselves in the foot, AGAIN, might not have been for financial reasons, AGAIN.

I watched the team after Parkinson arrived and we were significantly hampered when McGeady played. Not sure why as, like you say, way above the league we're in. It was as if he hampered us. We looked much better without him in the side IMO

Although our attack was ****e no matter what, Parkinson likes to get the ball forward quickly and into the box quickly as well. McGeady totally disagrees with that system and believes holding onto the ball as long as possible before passing or shooting is the way to go.
Gooch tended to play better with Maguire then he did with McGeady as well which probably played a part. Probably to do with the fact Maguire sometimes plays one, twos whereas McGeady prefers a pass to me, I'll take 400 touches then if I can't shoot I'll try and pass it back again approach

He seemed to have the opinion that he was the only one in our side who was any good and while there was some truth in that it didn't apply when he was bang out of form, which he was. Very little worked out for him and he struggled to get over that and be a team player.

The only transfer I've seen any news on making any progress is Bailey Wright but we need a lot more than one so yes hopefully some creative midfielder.

yes mate bit nervous about Wrights fitness hope he isn't made of glass, but also heard Maddison is a free agent, and is superb and proven in this league

There was talk at the time of bullying and I said back then, if that was the case, and he was dragging the team down he had to go and respect to Parky for sticking to his guns.

As you say, we looked better as a team without him.

If he is a bully and awkward in the squad, yep ditch him.

On the pitch he is often our best attacking player...but he is liability when he tries to defend

So he gives managers questions and problems....which they can do without.

Think Maddison poor attitude is well known and his ego and wages too much for small minded Sunderland

Aye because he makes himself the only option and won't pass until all the defenders are back and organised and he definitely can't shoot

... if he keeps up this routine.

He's obviously willing to become 'rent a quote' in the same way Mick Quinn is for Newcastle ...

    ... I just wish he'd get a proper job.

    https://www.footballinsider247.com/...ntially-leaving-rangers-rejoining-sunderland/

"When asked if Sunderland should consider re-signing Defoe if they gain promotion to the Championship, Phillips said“Would Lee Johnson want him around?"

“I am not so sure. Defoe has been a magnificent player but I do not know if a return to the Stadium of Light would be right.

“Sunderland have been down that route before with players and manager and it has not worked."

Really Kevin, weren't you just saying, last week, that you'd like to come back. If that's the case you might want to be careful what you're saying about the club ...

... perhaps you're just worried Defoe will take your 'S'.

I'm ok with the entirety of his article. He is suggesting we are better off investing in the long term rather than breaking the bank on a 45 year old.

Love Defoe and wish him all the best but I'm inclined to agree.
