I think you need to substantiate that, it's key to the whole discussion!

He was contracted to June 30th, if he was contracted to play 46 games, he'd have played 46 games.

It's from the original the athletic article isn't it. I didn't fully understand it but it was about the extra month of severance pay that's in all footballers' contracts. It seemed to claim that City were saying that month of severance pay should mean they should play for the extra month beyond their original contract, but since it's not actually any more money it'd essentially be playing an extra month for free.

The Athletic article said - 'it has previously been reported that Hull's out-of-contract players were asked to play on until the close of the campaign without the extra month of wages. This was, in effect, being asked to play for free'.

No idea what he was offered, but he said - “Different players will see it different ways. The older players might not be willing to risk an injury. Me personally I’d prefer to play, even if I’ve not got a guarantee (of an extended contract).”

Some other players might be happy and take the risk. For me it would be a good idea to play even if you’re not guaranteed having a contract next season.

“The more you play, the more likely you are to get another club or, if you play well, they’ll be more likely to extend your contract for next season.

“Different players will see it different ways. The older players might not be willing to risk an injury. Me personally I’d prefer to play, even if I’ve not got a guarantee (of an extended contract).”
    Top man Kevin stewart
    So personal choice
Kevin stewart will be applauded Irvine and lichaj won’t be when or if we play against them.

If this is the case then the club is being cheap and Irvine and anybody else in the same boat is quite entitled not to risk injury when they aren't being paid. As somebody wiser than me once said 'No good deed goes unpunished'.

McKenzie, Stewart and Toral were all in the same position, they signed up for the month extension, two of them played, McKenzie didn't even make the bench but travelled with the squad to away games, and they have all been released.

Personally I think using the risk of injury as an excuse not to play when you've just been paid in full to sit at home for 3 months is poor form, you'd hope players would have a bit more integrity than that, especially when they are supposed to be part of the leadership group.

However, given how low moral is around the club and the ill feeling towards the Allams I don't blame him for getting straight on that plane to Australia.

    Ok
He wasn’t offered any type of contract for next season, even one on significantly reduced wages

Because he wasn’t contracted for a 46 game season, he was contracted to play for the club until a certain date...which he did (or would have if selected)

He stayed in Hull, presumably hoping he would be offered something for next season.
Only went back to Aus to see his parents when it kicked off again and he hadn’t been offered anything (apart from the option to play for free knowing the club didn’t want him after that period)

End of the day if the players don’t feel loved they aren’t gonna break sweat for the club and it’s owners. I don’t blame them.

If this would have happened with a better ‘feel factor’ they would have played.

The fact is Ehab can’t even be bothered to consult players what the future is on their extensions or if the players out of contract. He’s done this ever since been in charge.

No any player that doesn’t play for free for a club that doesnt value them is a ****.

Ehab is a visionary in his approach. The old “treat em mean keep em keen” strategy. I can’t work out why it’s been such a failure.

So the captain of the club and the vice captain who have sat on their arses in a three month lockdown on pay both decide they can’t play the last few games of the season. They want more money even though they have just had three months off. I’m sorry but I don’t see it their way. They let their manager down and team mates and fans. I can’t see how three players who were to be released decide to play and they don’t.

You would like to think that the club would stand by the player and see him right. However just like the fans the players don't seem to trust the Allams as far as they could throw them.

They had a contract to June 30th. They weren't offered a good enough contract to play beyond then. It's that simple.
