I can see him insulting you (probably deservedly) but if you could show where one of our most cherished posters is being insulted I will take action.
What might tip a 2nd referendum towards the remainers is the fact that a general theme of the original result was that the old voted to leave and the young voted to stay. When you think that its been 3 years since the last vote, god knows how long till a possible 2nd, some leavers would have died or become incapable of voting for one reason or another and they will be replaced by 18 year olds who couldnt vote in the last one but will vote to stay in a future one.
Everybody keeps saying this but seems to disregard the fact that using that logic there will be just as many people who were innthe age bracket that was more likely to vote remain who have now moved into the age bracket that was more likely to vote leave. As our population is becoming skewed more to the top end then there should be more now voting leave.
I'd trust experienced old ****s like Jim over inexperienced wet behind the ears spotty weasels fresh out of school.
But this whole 'young will vote remain' is so tiresome, as if nobody who is 18 would dare vote to leave. Granted there'll probably be a fair few snowflakes falling for the 'vote remain to prove your not racist' schtick but it seems unfair to group a load of people who haven't voted in to one category, one way or the other. I'm 27 now and voted Leave, as did a fair few people of similar age or younger I know. My dad and nan voted remain. There are zero official figures for what age voted what, there are mere polls. The same polls had Remain to win. Just because a load of remoaners are crying about the result doesn't make this logic any less ridiculous than before. Brexit wasn't going to happen overnight, it was always going to be at least a couple of years, at best. If that argument was a fair one we should have stuck disclaimers on the ballot paper saying, under the leave option "don't bother if you'll die in the next 3 years, your vote will be meaningless as we'll have another vote if Leave wins". Doesn't sound very democratic to me.
Newt to be sorry over its just my opinion. Its a valid factor but one of many (location, class, race, life experiences, understanding/opinion of politics, etc.). One of too many to use as the sole reason for another vote.
I've just made a rather fetching snood out of my belly button fluff. Sorry, what were you all saying?
I do not want to be too harsh here, but the remaining 37% are ****ing irrelevant. If you want to vote and are eligible there is absolutely no excuse for not doing so. If you don't you have no voice from that point forward, you don't have a dog in the fight. Sorry there should be no minimum turnout etc because those that choose not to vote are irrelevant. People might say I can't say they are irrelevant as they live and work here etc. Well get off their ****ing lazy arse and vote. The apathy felt towards politicians and politics in this country go out the window when it comes to voting. The will of the people was to leave. By people I mean those who chose to take an interest in their countries future. I'm not interested in the rest. Again I agree with you about politics, though I must confess I do find it interesting. Its just sullied by the eton boys club etc.
I'm not sure why you keep pushing this. Nobody is saying there cannot be another vote to go back in down the line. That is democracy. If the feeling in this country changes and there is a big swell of people who want to rejoin, then it is right we should vote again (although I'm not sure why the people were ever involved). However democratically speaking, putting aside your own desire to remain, surely you can see why it would be wrong when we haven't even managed to carry out the decision from the first vote. In your type of politics a decision would never be taken. As Rob points out, if we vote again and there is a victory for remain, can we demand another vote before we revoke article 50? And then if the result changes again, can remain demand we vote again? I'm not sure what you're expecting really. You have to be able to change your mind in a democracy, 100% agree with that. However to do so before you've acted on the results of the vote which took place to decide this is fundamentally undemocratic in my eyes. So as much as it wasn't my wish, it was the wish of the majority. We have to actually try being out of the EU before we can decide to apply to go back in. Mind I think Macron would veto our re-entry if he was still about.
The Brexit deal May's been pushing for has no "re-entry", so it wouldn't be something we could just "vote for". I also don't think there will EVER be another vote like this again. Unless the public do something, which they won't, politics will be more closed off than ever after this. That 1922 shower of **** will be pulling the shutters down and barricading the door. I actually hoped for political reform after this - I actually now realise we'll get the opposite.
Well that’s made everything a lot clearer. What a surprise, there isn’t a majority for any option including a second referendum and extending Article 50. Maybe we should get Cameron back to explain once more why he proposed the Referendum in the first place.
