The fact that we were promoted from league 1 through the play offs a season and a half ago, and now we have a team which is filled with multi million pound players? I'm willing to just sit back and enjoy it. I dont get this 'god given right' attitude, the insistence that we must progress and constantly progress. I'm willing to accept that there will be occasions where we might regress and stutter at times. This might be through bad results, an iffy manager or a poor signing or two. But as long as we are still generally looking up rather than plummeting down I am content. A mean, throwing tantrums at present, considering our recent history, would be like a person stoically fighting off a life threatening illness but then getting clinically depressed when they later catch a cold.

We’re also only 3 points off mid table though so no not really, we’ve lost more games than Huddersfield in 21st place.
We are also avergaing pretty much the same number of points as last season so hardly been a massive drop off. Yes weve lost a lot but thats because we draw less now but we win more than we did last season at the same point

Who cares? It's about points totalled.

By that logic we are both a worse team than the team in 21st and a better team than the team in 5th by virtue of having more wins on the board.

Means nothing over the course of a season.

Better not to sign one than waste money on someone for the sake of it but I do think budgets for players appear to be in the 1-2 m range for every position and we need to up that for a forward. It can get a great championship defender, a good midfielder with promise, maybe even an average ageing championship Striker like Moore but it won’t get the quality we need and within the age we’re looking for. We’re going to need to either get lucky or invest more like 6 or 7 million if we don’t develop our own.
Still the same question though, which strikers are proven and have experience that everyone seems to want. I think in the top 10 leading goalscorers this season in the championship only 2 are CFs

But it could be that, for example, Mundle turns out to be better than Clarke. We sell Clarke for 25m in the summer and he's replaced by a player who we've signed for a relative pittance but who, by the time he is sold, is worth 40m.
Our young players are improving and improving together, as a team.
Just because we're not paying out for players at at their peak, doesn't mean we're not also improving.
We have said that many times, remember a kid from Man City Rodwell I think, also before that a kid from Ipswich called Whickham. Both turned out to be better players than the ones they were replacing NOT.

It's a fair point. When you're not progressing the better players will be on their way. In the summer, it's incredibly likely we lose Clarke and Neil. Maybe Patto and Ballard. The first 2 are near certains to leave. Take them both out of the team and you have to be very optimistic to see that Jobe or Ba can perform as regularly as Clarke and Neil.
but you also then have about 40-50 m to spend

It’s the third window running the team entering the window has been better than the team leaving it

Balance sheet probably better if that’s what the direction set from the top is and what Speakman is judged on

Feels like we will need to sign a striker and defensive midfielder in every window from now until eternity

Hold on, how has the team got worse? We've not lost anyone other than fringe players on loan and Pritch who imo was very overrated by our fanbase, and didn't want to be here anymore. We've signed three exciting young players, two of whom already have Championship experience at a very young age...

I messaged a coach at Spurs youth about Mundle. He was glowing about him. Says he is ready for mens football as well.

I am pleased we have made signings from these shores in January. Not that overseas lads arent up to the job. They are, but these 3 will slot straight in to the first team and be ready to go. Hjelde will be in the left back slot pretty soon I think. Stiles will be in and around it as well. The good thing about Mundle is like Ekwah he had been playing well in u23 football. It is not the same as first team football by any means, but has a pace about it that helps the transition to first team. I predict all three will make some very positive contributions this season.

Yeah, but they were big money signings who were expected to make a difference straight away, despite their age. Not the exciting prospects we're signing now. What's happening now is a completely different scenario.
