Kid called Celi is storming it in South America we should be looking at that deal

I'm sure most on here are old enough to remember the days of one substitute, no matter who got nobbled he had to go play, maybe a bit of a shuffle around but that was it. Now it's like trying to build an 11 piece jigsaw with 18 pieces, he's a 6 but not an 8 he's a 9 but can be squeezed into 10 and so on.
It's a game of football why is it getting so complicated?

Players In:

John Egan - Burnley - Eighteen month deal + one year option (undisclosed fee).
Louie Barry - Aston Villa - On loan until the end of the season.
Eliot Matazo - Monaco - Three-and-a-half-year deal, with a club option of an additional year (undisclosed fee).
Lincoln Henrique - Fenerbahçe - On loan until the end of the season.
Kyle Joseph - Blackpool - Three-and-a-half-year deal (undisclosed fee).
Nordin Amrabat - Free Agent - Deal until the end of the season.
Joe Gelhardt - Leeds United - On loan until the end of the season.
Matt Crooks - Real Salt Lake - Two-and-a-half-year deal, with one year option.

Players Out:

Xavier Simons - Wycombe Wanderers - On loan until the end of the season.
Andy Smith - Gillingham - On loan until the end of the season.
Yuriel Celi - Universitario de Deportes - Permanent deal (undisclosed fee).
Chris Bedia - Loan cancelled to allow him to join Swiss side Young Boys.
Anthony Racioppi - FC Köln - On loan until the end of the season.
Ryan Longman - Wrexham - undisclosed fee
Ryan Giles - Middlesbrough - On loan until the end of the season.
Carl Rushworth - Brighton - Loan cancelled.
Marvin Mehlem - SC Paderborn 07 - on loan until the end of the season.
Will Jarvis - Notts County- 3 1/2 year deal, undisclosed fee

On the whole, very good business.

It’s just happened under them!!
It has, but tbf changes were needed. We may still go down, but we've got a much better chance of staying up given who they've brought in.
Also, it's clearly been about bringing in the sort of 'characters' we've been missing too (some nous, leadership, presence, etc) as Selles mentions in this HDM article today. Hard to argue against?
And it sounds like he did want a LB after all (hardly a surprise - I guess the other day he was just meaning that if he had to go with what we've got then he's happy enough but not ideal).

I thought it was just Walter’s fault and the squad was good enough??
There’s only 16 games left I doubt that many new players can be integrated into a cohesive team
Crooks is the most important signing imho and he’s already had to go to the bench he plays all 16 games we will be fine
If selles has to chop and change and find out about players we’re in real trouble

Bill Shankly said back in the 1960s that football is a simple game so why do so many involved in it try to complicate it?

well that's Burstow seeing out his contract on loan to other clubs before leaving for a free or nominal, just like longman and Sinik before him, feel for the kid, obv cares and tries but not there yet for regular championship football, pretty much exactly as Sunderland fans warned us.

I said on the summer 2024 transfer thread around the time we were first linked with him that Burstow would end up on loan to someone like Grimsby a year later. Perhaps Grimsby is a bit too harsh but I think he will be loaned out indefinitely until his contract runs out. The new Tyler Smith.

Yeah, for all the talk about the club 'finally getting it right' under a new hierarchy and the head coach wanting a smaller squad, this January transfer window is almost a carbon copy of the previous January transfer window in terms of scale. The only difference is the quality.

But the problem isn't a single window of a lot of signings, it's that we keep having to rely on windows like this because so many of the previous window's intake end up discarded. We were always going to sign a lot this window, the question is whether these players are still providing value in 6 months or a year or if we're having to do another big shop again and again having given up on half of them.

only Tyler Smith was nominal....didn't we pay around 2 mil for Burstow?
