Match Day Thread vs Hoffenheim (A)

Confident we will get an away goal, but even more confident we will concede.
2-1 to Hoffenheim

It really isn't funny, there is a real problem there that needs resoving and coaching has not worked. It hasn't worked because the players are not up to the job so we should add players who are. Sounds simple enough.
Sorry luv - serious face from now on. Promise.

yep but signing 2 new CBs , 2 new GKs and a RB & LB & a tall DM seems a bit of a stretch before the window closes <whistle>

We would like to score and win.

If we are going to draw, then a high scoring draw would be good. What we don't want is a 0-0 or even a 1-1. And if we were going to lose then we need to at least score one.

i reckon Hoff 1 - 2 LFC
but this time no sitting back ,as it causes panic, near the end please just continue playing football .

That could be the scenario. At 1-0 or 2-1 we could suffer some serious bombardment as they have tall players and we are not quite that invincible at set pieces. Watch out for the corners, the free kicks and the long balls and crosses from either wings.

no one at the club has seemed to feel so up to now so why should Sat make any difference considering it could have been any game against a "lesser" team in the last 4 years .
This is the problem - and we've had it for a long time, and through different managers and players. Nobody really seems to be able to work it out.
I think that if you have an all-out attack philosophy then you're always going to be vulnerable, and the only way to cope is with truly world-class defenders, which we don't have.
I still think the set-piece weakness could, and should be solved though.

my preference is zonal with a couple of the offensive players being man marked i.e. Okacha & Kaboul on sat if only to block their runs. The defenders "marking" space must attack the ball though unlike at present when they regularly hardly move and don't bother jumping for the ball.

I agree, that there's no point in man marking midgets, but pure zonal is suicide imo. It gives too many advantages to the opponents. Your big defenders have to attack the ball, because it's no good expecting the likes of Firmino to fend off a guy who's 6 inches taller, a few stone heavier and coming down fast on him.
The opposition can see where your weak points are and just attack them. I really don't get it.

its not even like we are good at pure zonal <doh>

They scored shed loads of goals from set pieces last season, they're a massive side, just what you needed after Saturday lol.

Your games are completely unpredictable, you could easily rock up, tear them to bits and win at a canter.

But you could also easily, rock up defend like startled rabbits and concede a brace or more.

Should be a good watch this.

Season defining 2 matches. Mess this round up, we will find it very difficult to recover. The Europa may well be more achievable but is a long grinding road.

We'll just have to stop them getting into our half - sorted. <ok>

I disagree and don't like mixing it, it negates the point. Zonal is easier and gives defenders an advantage, as long as it's done properly and it's not hard (unless you're a Liverpool player). You have a zone, it's the same all the time and you are to attack any ball that comes into your zone. ****ING SIMPLE.

Standing still isn't an option.

But then you give the advantage to the opposition imo, because you're allowing them to choose who and where to attack. Providing the delivery is good enough.
