He is definitely past it and for Man Utd to spend so much on him shows their desperation. We wouldn’t have spent that much on a player like him. He’s like a trophy wife to some billionaire. Looking pretty and making the rich guy look good.
Moriba for sale from Barca. Being linked with spurs and RBL. Around €20m. That’s the king of risk I would like us to take.
I think he's a lot like Milner in that on the field and in training he's a model professional. Unlike Milner, Ronaldo is scum of the earth off the field, but on field he's a professional and hasn't let success get to him. He's still going to work hard, still going to outrun and out train the youngsters. He's not quite what he was, but he's still good. Not Milner good of course but still good. I think the danger with Ronaldo is not his ability but rather the potential destabling effect he will have of the club isn't built around him and he might see himself as bigger than Ole. United need Fergie back to keep him in his place. Who know, might end up being the answer to United's prayers or a terrible mistake. Time will tell. As seen at Juve, he's not a miracle worker by himself anymore. The rest of the team will have to perform too.
I think the 15 story tall statue plated in gold they are contractually obligated to build outside Old Trafford with his likeness could become a liability. Especially if it topples over on top of Pogba.
I'm unsure on the Ronaldo signing, I can understand why the United supporters are pleased, but its a rose tinted view of gaining back a once great player. There is a reason he was playing in Italy, same reason messi has gone to the farmers league, it kept him looking better than he was for longer than he should. It may prove a coop, a master stroke to propel utd up a level, but I'd ask in the position is he any better than what they've already got? What it does is make it ronaldos utd again just a smidge more scrutiny, a smudge more pressure, hod forbid but if the wheels fall off alot mor laughing at them. It is very much an expensive gamble
I’d agree on the football angle, but it’s no financial gamble, look at their share price……and his marketing value alone will cover his costs.
He will pick golden bogeys out of his nose and flick them at Ole to be collected and fund their title aspirations.
The marketing thing constantly crops up, will utd benefit really from having him for 12 months? Will sponsers suddenly pay more just because he plays for them? No I don't think they will. If he helps them win a pot, then maybe but not just for him pulling on a shirt and standing upfront. Success is what pulls sponsors in, its been a bit of time since he was top of the game.
His shirt sales will pay his wages the first few months. After that... He is going to be very expensive player indeed. I hope he's not worth it.
