You could buy players at any time. According to Wenger's press conference we're still active in the transfer market.
Probably best to go back to that method but with some protection for the clubs so they don't get harassed too much. We should be getting some players in, anything else would be very risky!
Transfers were made at any time during the season - players were 'cup-tied' if they had appeared in the FA or League Cups for the selling team and couldn't appear for the buying team. If a key player at a club like Man Utd. got injured, they'd be straight in to buy another. It's how Cantona originally moved to Man Utd. Contract loyalty was also pretty weak.
Agree with this, although the two signings that Wenger is talking about will probably be Bendtner and Diaby....as Wenger would say "like new signings with exceptional exceptional qualities"
"My players have top quality, exceptional character & an outstanding attitude. They drop little bit physically in the second half but have great mental strength."
Andrew [see below] may want Arsenal to make a move in the transfer market but manager Arsene Wenger says he 'will not panic buy' as the countdown to the end of the window increases the pressure on him to sign players this summer. When asked in a news conference on Friday whether he was still active in the transfer market, Wenger offered a positive response, but he could not provide any clue as to when he may make his first cash signing of this window. "I am confident (we will sign players) and we will not panic buy, that is for sure. It's not my strength to panic," says Wenger. What on earth does that mean? Good luck on not panic buying with a few days left in the Window. If you WANT to avoid panic buying, then try doing your business in good time and not mention you have £70m available!
I still believe we will get players in, we have to. Leaving it this late does make me afraid of who we will get. I am hoping they are close to a few big deals and are gonna do some massive reveal before kick off on Sunday - get the fans pumping as well as put some fear of god into the backsides of our current squad before the game ( at least I can hope for that).
We will buy players but don't expect any big names or players that will be better than our current first 11.
To be fair, nobody knows what's going to happen at this point. We might end up with **** all, or pull the rabbit out of the hat and get a couple of top quality additions. It's nerve wracking going into the last few days, but at the same time that's what makes it all kind of exciting eh ?
If we went and spent £70m+ on Di Maria, Ozil and Benzema we would be genuine title contenders. That would be a HUGE improvement to our squad, bring our depth back and be the few top quality players who could push us up a level. Signing those three as well as sanogo, flamini and possibly a defender/gk still would make this one of the most successful transfer windows of Wengers time. Maybe Madrid want to recoup a large amount of the Bale transfer immedietly? And maybe with all 3 of them comming we can convince them they will make the difference and we can win trophies? All that said - I just can't see this happening. I do think Madrid want to clear 1 or possibly 2 of these players out of the squad and i do think we would go for them - but all 3 of them? It'd be a miracle. The papers are evil.
We will definately sign players - i think Wengers comments make it obvious we have some signings lined up. Who they will be however is anyones guess. I'm sure it won't be as good as we hope, nor as bad as others predict, but somewhere in the middle. Hopefully titling towards success!
As for Kaka - even over the last couple of seasosn where he hasn't been first choice he has been good whenever i have seen him on the pitch, his movement and eye for a pass are fantastic. If we fail to land our other Madrid targets i would not be against bringing him in on a 1 year loan deal to provide some depth to the squad. He could still be a very useful player given the opportunity.
wenger has repeatedly said he will only buy if there is someone who is better than what we have and in the last 3 months he has not found anybody yet and even the Cabaye deal looks to be dead
Kevin Prince Boateng having a medical with Schalke apparently. This guy took us apart in Milan 2 years ago, but I guess he isn't the ''top, top quality'' that Wenger is looking for.
