We entered the Summer short on quality, since then we've lost Arteta, Oxo, TV, Diaby and Pod to long term injuries and only brought in a freebie forward and a DM who was pretty good 6 years ago before he walked away lured by Italian cash. We now need to buy 3 top class players just to get us to the levels of quality we were at 3 months ago, that's how bad things are IMO....
With Chelsea signing Eto'o, then does that mean they're not after Rooney any more? If they're not after Rooney, then that dampens the possibility of a Mata+cash for Rooney deal, meaning that we may have a faint sniff at signing Mata. Wenger has admitted he likes him, and he obviously likes him enough to try and sign him (2 years ago).
Can't happen. Liverpool have done just about everything they can to embarrass themselves over the past couple of years but their stance on Suarez (re selling him to us) has actually been professional, correct and they've earned some respect for this, caving in now would ridicule everything they've said for weeks. He's either staying or off to Madrid (with us getting Benzema)
Vermaelen & Diaby were known injuries very early on, not replacing them is worse than poor, it's downright negligent. So it's down to the final few days. How optimistic are we feeling? Anyone want to tell me Wenger is a genius? Arsenal still a couple of signings away from a title challenge?
You ****s will soon change your tune if we do sign somebody like Di Maria But I have to admit that if we don't bring in a 'top quality' player, then I will be right there with you on this.
whoever sanctioned the £40million+£1 Suarez bid needs sacking, if we went in with a straight £50 million bid we might of had a better chance to get him, now we are screwed as no top striker will join us.. Is Thierry Henry still playing?
Like I posted earlier, because of injuries our first team has regressed since May, we need not only a Di Maria but a couple more of his level, then (when our injured players return and assuming no further injuries) we may have strengthened marginally. Sadly though the likes of Chelsea and Man City have strengthened significantly once again....
I agree it was a bad move. Somebody thought that would trigger a clause which didn't exist. I understand that a fifty million bid might have secured him, but to be honest that's with the benefit of hindsight. When I saw that we'd made a forty million bid I nearly fell off my chair, I still think it's overpriced for Suarez in any normal window.
It's not good at all that our squad has become so thread bare. It was good that we finally shipped out the deadwood cluttering up the squad and wages, but without managing to sign any replacements so far, we've left ourselves in a really precarious position. Our first eleven are fine, but we're already struggling with injures and we're still in August .... The next few days are going to be make or break for this season and possibly for Wenger too.
Agree it was a bit overpriced but that is how todays market is, you have to pay top top money for top top top quality
Di Maria would be a start, but we could do with a top striker as well. Maybe Jackson Martinez, i hear his buyout clause is £36 million, small change when you consider how much money we have lying around.
Quick question, and i mean this sincerely for a change, as you are a Wenger loyalist, if we don't strengthen and we suffer more injuries, do you see Wenger being replaced mid season?
Ok, I'm not a Wenger loyalist, I'm an Arsenal fan. I just happen to think Wenger has been doing a decent job given the circumstances over the last eight years, and I don't know who else we could have brought in that would have done any better, they would still have had to have worked with this board, so that's why I've not been calling for him to be sacked. If we don't strengthen and we have a crap season, then I think we have to make changes. We've been told that all the things are in place for us to compete with the top clubs, the stadium, the money etc. So there are no more excuses. I think this summer saw a change of tact, with the deadwood being shipped out, big bids being made and a willingness to pay the top wages. The trouble is we've made a hash of it so far, so for me it's the negotiating team that needs to change. Personally, I would keep Wenger and leave him to the football. Bring in David Dein as a DOF / chief negotiator. Keep Gazidis purely to the commercial side of operations.
Kaka anyone? Maybe on loan? I know it's not the position we need to fill but we do need numbers. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23893239
The rumour about Gazidis missing the draw in Monaco has surfaced again.Last night he'd apparently not got on the plane.Tonight's rumour is he arrived in Monaco but was called away on business
