I think Mowbray had become frustrated with certain things but he’s a professional so carried on the best he could. He seemed to accept what was coming after the Millwall game but hopefully, the majority of fans will both remember Mowbray as having a positive impact on the club, and long term see that it was perhaps best for all parties concerned. I don’t understand the point in arguing ****e online with rivals, it’s just pointless, you read the comments on BBC reports after the game and it’s always filled with idiots from both side. Don’t get involved, don’t bite, don’t let it get to you, it’s only football
It's not something that gets to me, and it's not something I bite to. I've seen quotes in the press of the decision to "sack" Mowbray to be a daft one, however there's always two sides to the story. I agree he'll be as frustrated as the fans are with the decisions being made, but unfortunately that's the way it is now. There's a huge difference as you'll know between a coach and a manager, more and more old school managers aren't compatible with the way clubs are ran now. As for Radio Newcastle, personally can't stand it.
Totally agree. I've just said that the club doing that is an obvious and clear indication that the parting was mutual.
He’d took us as far as he could and the club took the decision to replace him before he was getting grief from fans how anybody can slag the club off for that is beyond me.
the little changes today made a massive difference much better seeing the fullbacks actually play as fullbacks and seeing wingers get the ball in quicker, also it did help that roberts had one of his good games today
Just went back to the basics today really, full backs played as full backs, when there was no pass on we went direct to the channels and jobe held it up or won throws in the final third. Interesting that he wasn’t happy at half time, I thought we did okay (they came into it last 15 in the first half for sure) but we should have been ahead. Good mentality to want more, we were in total control second half, good stuff, few pints for me now happy days
Ticks a lot of boxes for Championship clubs. Plays a nice brand of football, has respected coaching credentials, just coming off a job with a 40% win rate. The fact he has just left Sunderland, and that's where they took Neil from is probably the only reason they might not fancy him.
Apologies if I am wrong but I don't think Mowbray has ever said that we had no money to spend in the press, I will retract if you post the quote. He did say he doesn't think we will buy another striker in the January window, which is a completely different thing.
This. Has never commented on money. Just whether we will sign players. And frankly that was consistant throughout. He's always been 100% honest with that. Nobody can be 100% sure we will sign a striker, even if we want to.
Tony Mowbray Statement STATEMENT RELEASED ON BEHALF OF TONY MOWBRAY: "After fifteen eventful months my time at Sunderland has come to an end. "I would like to thank Kyril Louis-Dreyfus for entrusting me to lead such a historic and significant Football Club. "I believe that I leave the Club in a positive place in terms of both league position and also with a strong and unified dressing room. "To the players, thank you. You have been a pleasure to work with. You are a special group with humility being a core value within the dressing room. Thank you for embracing our methods and I hope that you enjoyed the journey. "I am grateful to the senior professionals who acted as role models and mentors for their young team mates and also thankful to the young players who thrived under the style of play. "To all of the support staff at both the training ground and the stadium, thank you for creating such a positive environment in which the players flourished. "Finally, I would like to thank the most important people at any football club, the supporters. I will forever be grateful for the amazing support that you gave to the team but also to me personally. As a native Teessider, the warmth that I received from Wearside was truly special. It is a bond that I genuinely appreciate. "The atmosphere that you created at the Stadium of Light was inspirational and to those of you who travelled in your many thousands supporting the team around the country your support was phenomenal. "I leave energised and enthusiastic for my next challenge. "Thank you for the memories." LMA (leaguemanagers.com) good luck Tony and thanks
Whilst I am not sure if there was a falling out I do feel like there may have been some friction between TM and KS this leads me to think that maybe MD had a lot of input with TM last season and the beginning of this season but once the friction between KS and TM came to a head that TM no longer put value on MD input and thus our shape and tactics changed ! This of course is complete conjecture on my part. On his statement I think it sounds genuinely heartfelt and almost like it was more of a mutual parting of the ways and not as acrimonious as the media would have us believe. For me I would thank TM for his part in our revival and wish him all the best for the future.
I know it's only a statement, but I do think he really enjoyed his time here and working with the young players. Thank you for the brilliant football we have played
