I found his signing to be strange to begin with for this very reason. Formations aren’t the be-all and end-all but Walter’s system didnt utilise a roaming number 10. The midfield was a single holding mid, who was expected to not drop deep during build-up, and two energetic number 8s.
Tufan would’ve been suited to one of the number 8 positions as he’s really always been a box-to-box midfielder but has filled in as a number 10, holding mid, as a winger and even as a fullback on occasion. Palmer’s a classic number 10. They’re mavericks, a bit lazy, they don’t track back like a box-to-box mid would so I don’t see why we signed him for a system that wouldn’t use his best strengths.
