I find it a bit strange that Palmer says he wanted to play number 10 but wasn't able to. Given Walter always played his 4-3-3 without a true number 10 position, it seems very strange that they wouldn't be on the same page about that from the day he signed.
And what if he was right? What if it was laid back or slovenly at the training ground? baz and others just seem to enjoy throwing **** at the wall thinking it will stick No one knows except me obviously
Or maybe it's just all horse **** and lies. The players were hugging him after substitutions even up to Tuesday night. Nobody reacts like that during an upset dressing room trust me. Some people will believe anything.
it does sound like something is missing context and its a typical thing to throw against an unliked manager
I found his signing to be strange to begin with for this very reason. Formations aren’t the be-all and end-all but Walter’s system didnt utilise a roaming number 10. The midfield was a single holding mid, who was expected to not drop deep during build-up, and two energetic number 8s. Tufan would’ve been suited to one of the number 8 positions as he’s really always been a box-to-box midfielder but has filled in as a number 10, holding mid, as a winger and even as a fullback on occasion. Palmer’s a classic number 10. They’re mavericks, a bit lazy, they don’t track back like a box-to-box mid would so I don’t see why we signed him for a system that wouldn’t use his best strengths.
All the signings were pretty strange and to me smacked o f the brains trust just grabbing whoever I really doubt Walter had much say in and at the end was just desperate for anyone We said back in June to expect four or five German players on the books which never happened which to me was bizarre then and is now
to me palmer was a panic signing near the end of the window when our so called targets didnt come in he wasnt a thought out signing still rate him though
I rate him too I just don’t know why we signed a number 10 when the new manager doesn’t utilise a traditional number 10. At least Mehlem and Ömür can play as box-to-box mids due to their work rate. It reminds me of Klopp signing Carvalho from Fulham then never using him or playing him out wide because he didn’t use a number 10 either. Brentford then signed him and Thomas Frank doesn’t use a traditional number 10 either lol.
To me it shows the disconnect between the scouting team and Walter. I genuinely don’t think they got the type of midfielder he wanted. Which is evidenced by the fact he played a midfield 3 of Slater, Simons and Puerta who in my opinion are very similar in skill sets. if it’s true that Dublin is leading the hunt for a new manager then hopefully that means there will be more synergy for January in getting some players in to fix this mess
Cooper needs to grow the **** up and drop this fake ITK bollox. Flinging sh!t around about the recently departed coach casts a shadow over the whole set-up,it's unnecessary and disruptive and achieves nothing but creating idle gossip. He knows about as much as we do and he should now be concentrating on how we're preparing for Saturday's crucial clash under Andy Dawson, not waging a personal vendetta against a failed ex coach. If he persists in dragging the Club's name through the mud he should be dropped to the back of the queue when it comes to the Club distributing real scoops...
