Well yeah as they've spent more years in the top flight than anyone I believe, and have the second longest consecutive run. I just think 7 seasons is quite short to be the longest outside those clubs.
Can't find where it was but there was people discussing the record low amount of wins to stay up with in a season. I can confirm it's not us as WBA stayed up with 6 in 2005.
Only 4 teams have stayed up with 7 or fewer since the founding of the PL: WBA twice, Villa and Sunderland once each. We should tip over Man City just to avoid that company.
By the way, we're about 160/1 (on Betfair) still to be relegated. Put £6 on it and you'll have enough for a couple of Championship season tickets if the worst happens. Vin
Just did £10 at 150/1. I am crap at bets and always lose this year. Best £10 I've wasted in a while. You can all thank me on Sunday at the pub...by buying me a wine
We ought to thank Pellegrino really. If we'd lost a few more games and hadn't ground out all those draws we may already be down.
Every point counts. He didn't suit us or the players he had, but he had no luck at all. Easy to blame the manager, but the players have a bit to answer for...their manager was new, but most of them knew each other....hardly a bunch of strangers. All's well that end's well. Dust ourselves off and move on....after one iffy season with a decent finish under Puel and a seriously iffy season under MP2, something needs sorting out. We are only a couple of players from being a good side....if we have the right manager. The board have a lot to do in the closed season.
I am no font of knowledge when it comes to football , but I agree with you Fran . The board have a lot to answer for , the biggest point for me is WHY did they not get rid of MP2 sooner ? Of course he is not only to blame , but even I could see we were probably only going in one direction with him as manager . Don't forget , we are not safe yet .
We all wanted the board to act sooner, but then we are heartless beasts who don't actually have to bin someone. It was those bloody draws....surely, surely a win was just round the corner!! I think the board had probably written this season off as one where we'd be safe, but not set the world alight. They were caught out thinking ahead of themselves to the summer and the Chinese plans...then suddenly woke up.
They played a blinder, didn't they! I thought we were gone by the time we sacked him. Seemed too late. But they were like sitting at a poker table going all in on a 3 & an a seven, while waiting for the river to drop the all important four to complete the straight. Clever, daft or lucky, hell only knows, but I'd take these last day nerves to anything else I was expecting!
Sorry Fran . I find it hard to believe that Reed Kruger etc , would honestly care a damn about getting rid of anyone . It's all about £'s & Ego's .
