That was as close to total humiliation as you can get. Out-thought, out-fought, out-played and out-classed all over the pitch. United played like a team who knew what they should do and where they should be. We were just a bunch of individuals who looked like they didn't have a plan. If Fatawu is resorting to hopeful 35 yard shots because he can't see any other way of scoring then that says it all. The dressing room must be an awful place to be at the moment. I can't imagine any player of quality wanting to come to the club in January unless it's for a big pay day. But I can imagine there are a few who are already here who would love to get away.
Things are seriously wrong, like Harborough says. Both on and off the pitch we seem to have no sense of direction or leadership. The same old things are coming from the manager - unacceptable performance, individual mistakes, things he can't talk about. But he has to take some of the blame. His job as manager is to get the players together and to perform on the pitch. Things were bad at Sheffield United a little while ago, but they are now the form team in the league under Chris Wilder. Will Cifuentes be doing a Maresca or will he just cling on?
A defeat in the Cheltenham cup tie might be the catalyst for some activity.
