Just finished 1st season. Very poor start and 16th at end of December. Sold both Armstrongs in January and doubled down on buying 3 more high potential players. Ended up 6th and in Europe next year! If you can weather the storm with the younger players and give them lots of reps they get good very fast. I recommend the young lad at Watford, Asprilla. I signed him for about 8m upfront and he scored 8 in the back half of the season. None of my squad got more than 10 PL goals.
I normally don't play in beta (FM isn't worth playing until someone releases a mod to remove Brexit, dammit), but I might have to see just how ridiculous I can get in terms of player sales. FM is easy to break as a rule, but I feel like this year is going to be exceedingly easy to break.
Because of the wonder kids ? I have no idea how to get the beta (think it might be too late). Full release isn’t far away
Combination of young talent plus players that can be sold plus FM's arguably inflated view of the players we do have. The increased options for manager customization might have been a mistake.
Which players do they arguably have an inflated view of? Small as a wonderkid causes raised eyebrows. And I guess Adam Armstrong (i saw a screen shot and he seemed to have generally good stats) And from what little I have read it seems like pretty much all premier league players have absurd over valuations (not just ours). Whether you can sell people for them is another matter One of the guys (or perhaps the only guy) who does the research for Saints on FM used to post a lot on Saintsweb. He got bullied off of there because he was very pedantic and eventually they weren't having that
I know. He got pedantic over trying to claim we had even more double barrelled players than we already do (no idea why it was necessary to add extra when we already have lots)
Who cares about real life football? FM is the only place Saints can ever be relevant In my 4th season currently, think I finished something like 9th first year, 3rd second and 2nd third. Currently top in March of the 4th. As always when being a Prem team it’s far too easy but whatever, transfer instalments break the game. Signed Joao Pedro, Manu Kone, Tobias Gulliksen, Andreas Schjelderup, Yaser Asprilla first transfer window for about 150m combined, sold Ely and cashed in on all the transfer clauses. Sold Joao Pedro for 125m, Gulliksen for £95m and Kone for £80m and now have a ridiculous team of u21 players that either win 5/6/7-0 or draw
Not really, depends how well you’re doing/player sales etc. Those 5 players I listed I’ve now moved 4 of them on for roughly £300m, also in the champs league which helps with the finances.
I did a test run last night, and managed to get to a budget of £120m and £700k p/w (while failing to sell several players), so I'd imagine that it'd be pretty easy to have a first window well north of £200m if one was so inclined.
What's everyone's preferred formation? Do you go classic Ralph 4-2-2-2? Standard FM 4-3-3 ? Or something more creative?
Been like it for years, can pretty much spend unlimited money if you are so inclined. If anything this year they’ve made it slightly better with teams asking for more money upfront or sticking to release clauses (which you have to pay all upfront to trigger)
