This strikes me as the sort of gamble a Championship club would take if they were skint, had loads of youth players in the squad and were struggling near the bottom of the division.

It's definitely a left field appointment. Let's hope it's the right one or we will likely end up as the club I mention in my first paragraph.

Nearly done and dusted then

Vice chairman Ronnie MacDonald said: "Further to an official approach by Norwich City, permission was granted for our manager Alex Neil to meet the Norwich board.

"Alex travelled to Norwich today to view the stadium and training ground.

"Alex will return tomorrow for a meeting with myself after which a further statement will be made.

"We are delighted that Alex’s achievements have been recognised by this approach and that our policy of progressing players, staff and managers continues."

Oh FFS what is with the hyperbole on here?

Of course this guy may well not work out. Of course it's a risk. If he doesn't work out, we will appoint a new manager, and another one after that. Even if he does work out and we get promoted and then stay in the PL for a while, he will probably still leave. But my god it really isn't the end of the world. Our club remains in a great position, not just this season, but next, and the season after that and probably the ones after that.

I agree that there are less risky appointments - Pulis is obviously off the cards but is a decent example. I'm not sure I want Norwich to be in the PL that much. Possibly, but I'm not sure. And I don't see this guy as any more risky than Robinson or even that much more risky than Rosler. In fact I wonder whether the likes of Rosler or even Laudrup or some of the other names on here may be more risky because our players don't fit their styles - I've no idea what this guy's style is like.

And, yes, there is a point where the board cannot keep making mistakes, but the idea that they have somehow acted catastrophically in the last couple of seasons is really quite ridiculous. There is time.

Let's get behind the new manager, be patient and hope for the best.

At the time we could have got Pulis City had, in the previous 4 games, won 2 home games 6-1 and 5-0, an away game 1-0 and drawn away at Derby having been the better team. Everybody assumed that the arrival of Phelan had got us back on track - on what basis could you have sacked Adams then? People, including yourself, keep referring to an ambitious appointment - who, realistically, in your eyes, would represent an 'ambitious appointment' ?

before our run of good results and phelan came in, infact the first Reading defeat, the oppurnity was there then but we didnt take it...

It would be a tad harsh if Phelan gets the boot after 2 months in the job .

And for the record - this guy is definitely bargain basement territory. My god he better be cheap.

But let's face it, there's nothing better than a good bargain. I'd rather that than pay a small fortune for the "experience" and "name" of, e.g., Tim Sherwood who I don't particularly rate anyway and would be a significantly more expensive failure.

FFS Rob you what ? What the hell is the point of supporting any team if you don't want to see them progress and compete regularly at the top level ?
Anyway, I'm happy that at least the club have 'looked outside the box' for all we know DM might just have found another PL
