I was sat with my young granddaughter one game recently when this was sung, and she joined in, totally unaware of what they were singing about.

I'd not heard a rent boy chant at footy for decades, and never really gave the meaning much consideration, but in the 90s I probably would have joined in, as a wet behind the ears teen. Now, understanding what it infers, I wouldn't.
Peter's argument of "why should the gays care, if they aren't all rent boys?" misses the point that in 2026 we shouldn't be using a gay slur to denigrate, and that's exactly what it was.
Similarly, 20 years ago some of our fans got in **** as they were chanting "town full of bombers" at QPR fans. In the same mindset, Why should QPR care, they're not all bombers, after all? No, it was a racist way of linking an area with high immigration population to the actions of some extremists.
These things are both illegal, and people got arrested for them. Be better
