Peter, people are killed, shunned and attacked because of the fact they naturally are attracted to the same sex.

It would have been illegal for me to be in the relationship I’m in 60 odd years ago. I would be chucked off a building in other parts of the world.

Please don’t tell me homophobia is slight teasing.
You do realise you are saying something shouldnt be said in Hull now because of what used to happen in the UK 59 years ago or uncivilised parts of the world now?

'LGBT' friendly pubs? I've yet to drink in a pub that's turned someone away for being gay and in any event how would anyone know who's gay and what goes on in someone's private space...

Who's marginalizing who here?

Perhaps someone can list the LGBT "unfriendly" pubs in Hull ? The next time I'm down with my lesbian daughter I'll give them a swerve.

It’s about having a space for LGBT people to go to feel safe to be affectionate with their partner/date/hook up or know if you chat someone up you aren’t going to get a right hook back.

This thread just shows how much work society still has to do.

I was waiting for the “I have a friend who is gay” statement to pop up.
If that's aimed at me it's bang out of order but I'll absorb it with the pinch of salt it deserves...

I've also got friends from all over the world, some are even black FFS.

Were you waiting for that too?

You do realise that sport hasn’t quite moved with the times and being LGBT in men’s football is still a taboo subject?

So you're saying we're past all that now and should be able to say what we like?

Why don't you have a go throwing the N word around just because slavery isn't a thing anymore?

Clubs can now be charged by the Football Association if their fans use a homophobic chant that has been aimed at Chelsea players and supporters (11.01.2023).

The chant has allegedly been sung by Manchester City and Nottingham Forest fans in recent matches against Chelsea.

Manchester United fans also allegedly directed the chant at Everton boss Frank Lampard during Friday's FA Cup match over his links to the Blues.

The FA has always condemned the use of the chant.

On Wednesday, the FA said it has now written all clubs across the Premier League, EFL, National League, Women's Super League, Women's Championship and steps two to four of the pyramid to remind them it can "pursue formal disciplinary action against any club whose supporters engage in discriminatory behaviour", which now includes this chant.

In January 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) classed the chant as a homophobic slur and said fans singing it during matches were committing a hate crime.

Those found to have used the words could face prosecution.

The FA said this "important step" in now being able to charge clubs, follows the recent successful prosecution of a fan for homophobic abuse, specifically referring to this chant.

It added: "These rules apply to the conduct of supporters at both home and away fixtures, and clubs at all levels of English football have a responsibility to ensure their spectators behave appropriately when attending matches.

"The FA takes all allegations of discrimination extremely seriously and would encourage anybody who has been subject to, or a witness of incidents of discrimination, to report it to the FA, the club or the relevant authorities so it can be investigated thoroughly.
This is the same FA who participated in the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar.
They are a bunch of hypocrites and their decisions cannot be justified.

Yeah I really struggled with how to word that whole post, my first post on this topic.

Please try and see the bigger point I was trying to make.

Some pubs attract mainly older customers, some attract a younger crowd, some pubs are frequented by bikers, others are popular with the LGBT.
Yes,and I was making the point that I drink in any pub with the caveat that it's not charging £10 a pint.

Aren't your lot the ones that moan we're too tolerant of "that lot" in the UK and should defend our values? Now you're suggesting we should just fold and adopt their values. Make up your mind.

what is your evidence that it is taboo? when I played men's football or watched men's football there's been lots of subjects not discussed. despite that there are several openly gay men in men's football still playing.

Wisdom, perspective, and common sense tells me if I'm going to join in with the chant I run the risk of arrest and a criminal record. That is all.
You've missed the point. You've taken TwoWrights and made a wrong.
I said "Studid maybe, but arrested (for that) and a criminal record"
The bit you quoted was not in reference to those few responsilbe for the heinous crime, but to those older ones of us who have been called silly old ****s and such stuff (oh the irony).

How many men have been openly gay whilst playing in the Premier League?

About 5000 men have played in the PL. About 4% of men self identify as being attracted to the same sex. Let’s knock that down by half to account for football typically being ‘straight’. That still leaves about 100 who could have been openly gay/bisexual. Where are they?

You’ve just spent 24 hours telling a gay man that the rent boy chant isn’t homophobic despite the CPS declaring it homophobic.

There’s your evidence.

I was a member of a supporters club. One of the members told us he was gay. Nobody made an issue out of it.
Some of the members were socialists. The sort who would campaign for gay rights. After the socialists had a few drinks sometimes they would make pathetic jokes critical of the gay guy's sexuality. It was never my experience to see the more conservative members crack similar jokes. Just consider who is being honest when they tell you their views. They could be "virtue signalling".
