https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...s-sunderland-striker-wilson-isidor-penalties/ REGIS LE BRIS was always confident Wilson Isidor would bounce back from the disappointment of his penalty despair at Turf Moor, and says the Sunderland striker’s determination to keep going sets an example for his team-mates to follow.… “It shows that when you are consistent, you will be involved,” said Le Bris, when asked about his decision not to take Isidor out of the firing line in the wake of his spot-kick trauma. “It is a good example for the team. Wilson is always at 100 per cent, he wants to score but he wants to defend even when he struggles. He doesn't search for excuses, he takes responsibility.” While Isidor and Trai Hume both scored at the weekend, Sunderland were unable to take all three points against the Championship’s bottom team. Le Bris’ decision to hand Salis Abdul Samed a first start did not really go as planned, with Dan Neil also failing to fully fire as he was moved into a more advanced midfield role. Neil has spent almost all of the season playing as a deep-lying midfielder, and while he had previously played much higher up the field, Le Bris accepts it could take him time to build new relationships with the players around him if he finds himself playing closer to the opposition’s box on a more regular basis in the remainder of the season. “It has been Dan’s main position in the past,” said the Sunderland boss. “Although he will probably need a little bit more time to connect with this triangle on the right side. “It’s not just about this game though. We were disappointed, but we have to build our strength for the last rounds of the season. The experience will be useful for us at the end of the season. “We have two (more) players who can help the team – Enzo (Le Fee) and Salis. Jobe (Bellingham) also played higher up the pitch, so we are creating other options to deal with all the different scenarios we will face. If we have more options available, we are going to be stronger as a team.”
Every time we have a poor performance the holy trinity appears … … Speakman, Dodds and Proctor. It’s ridiculous.
No point dwelling on it now, no one capitalised on anyone’s cock ups this weekend, it’s as you were, we were in the race before a ball was kicked Friday and we still are, dust ourselves down and we go again Monday, nouts won or lost in January
I keep seeing the phrase ‘We sat back, at 2-1, and invited Plymouth to attack’. I have to say, I find that totally baffling, if a team is just throwing everyone forward you simply have to track them. I also see people saying that we should’ve brought on attacking players or someone to win the ball in midfield, which I find equally baffling. Plymouth didn’t need any invitation, they had no other option but to lump the ball forward ... ... and the midfield was almost entirely bypassed. It obviously didn't turn out as we'd hoped but failing to win a header against a 6'13" opponent can happen. I said at the time we needed to forget playing football at 2-1 ... just keep the ball, waste time and slow the game down. We're just too naive, I hope that experience hurt and will make us a bit more cynical and hard hearted.
Indeed they could say the same too! Missed at least 2 very good chances. I do think we sat back and invited them on personally. Just an opinion. I get they piked it forward, but we stopped the pass and move which we did grin going behind and he brought on a defender, which impacts the mindset of the team. Again that’s just an opinion. Plymouth were awful to watch. Really poor but still took a point from us at our place and 3 at theirs. We didn’t look in the first half like a team fighting for promotion! And I am a mega optimist as you all know
It’s very hard to get that back when a team starts lumping it though because they get loads of bodies around the box and it’s impossible to retain it
But we responded in kind. Patterson lumping every goal kick too, which we hadn’t done at 0-1 up to 2-1! It’s little things like that which make it easier for teams. We went long as they did, but they had less to lose so that made it easier for them.
They’d wasted time at 0-0 and 1-1 … … we should’ve done the same at 2-1, no need to keep chasing the game. Attack is definitely not always the best form of defence.
I think we just need get over it. No harm was done, in fact we gained this weekend. We will be better Monday.
Exactly mate, I really don’t get the anger towards the manager and players … … they didn’t play badly out of spite. Someone will always think they know best and feel offended when they don’t get their way. Neil was asked to play further back but people didn’t like it and demanded a ‘proper’ CDM. Now, when Neil plays further forward, people are saying he should go back to his ‘natural position’. People want Rigg ‘rested’ then say he was missed … … some want Samed brought in then others say he should be ‘sent back’, whatever that means. Thankfully RLB doesn’t have to read the forums or he’d have to see totally contradictory wishes from people who all believe they’re right. They’re opinions, which is great, but not when people wind themselves up because the manager isn’t listening
Maybe. But we’ll never know I suppose. Even time wasting they scored before injury time so it wouldn’t have mattered in reality. also, we’d have been booked straight away as we have different rules
I think it means we either tire in the last 15 minutes or make poor tactical adjustments or our game management in closing games out is poor. It also means that when both teams go for it and play football, after 75 mins we are the best team in the league.
