We've failed to score in less games without Stewart than with him ...

... if we give him a fat new contract and he doesn't recover well from his injury we've increased the wages of someone who's no longer as good.

I'd rather Southampton took that risk tbh.
Yeah, the injury has scuppered things. He would have gone earlier in the summer (IMHO) without it and it's hampering our chances of selling him for a big fee now.
Feels like this Southampton offer is the way to go. £8.5 + add ons and reinvest for a couple of over-ready Championship players.
Going to be an interesting next 57 hours.........

I know his goals record isn’t brilliant but we should be going all out for jebbison on loan for me, think he’d cause mayhem here which would benefit roberts Clarke jobe dack etc massively
Looked the business last season. Could deffo do a job.

If we don't replace him we are destined for mid table. Even if this Rusyn lad comes in, we are massively lacking in goals
Is a mid table placing really that bad.
We get more experience into our young squad settled system and if more of our ‘stars’ think the grass is greener elsewhere then cheerio’s, and we move on.
The only disaster for us is relegation and that’s not happening.

KLD happy with this for now.
I hope not. Don't see this division getting any easier in coming seasons. So many ups and downs means there are 10+ teams with parachute and/or transfer sales money who can outbid us

The club have to accept a offer from Southampton first, Stewart might say no to them, we have no idea what he wants to do. Same with the contract height still sign it for all we know. Personally I would reject Southampton's offers unless its a stupid offer. He will be impossible to replace this late in the window

Contract wise you'd have to imagine Southampton will offer better wages. I'm always uncomfortable when we aid a player back to fitness then they go asap (Paddy McNair springs to mind). Stewart has no connection to us an could see Southampton as a better opportunity to get promoted quicker than he would here. Personally I don't get attached to any footballer anymore so am genuinely not arsed if Stewart stays or leaves, it'll be onto the next player.

Mid table would be a backwards step (I know it's nuanced against the state of the division this year v last) but the worry is we become another Stoke and hover around 12th season after season.....

He's either in it for the money or not ...

... if he is the PL is where we wants to be.

There's no question that's where the big money is.

Or do people really think he'd rather watch us at Rotherham than Arsenal.

Speakman needs to get on a conference call with Southampton and Everton.

We want Tom Cannon (Everton)...
Southampton want Ross Stewart...(Sunderland)
Everton want Che Adams (Southampton)

Could be piss easy to sort out in theory.

What will probably happen is Cannon will go to Boro, Stewart will go to Southampton, Adams will go to Everton, and we'll be left holding our dick, and no striker.
i think we'll see him in a red and white shirt again just not a sunderland one, with him going

i can see potentially 4 players in now by friday
rusyn medical tomorrow
winger
cm
and Stewarts replacement

He would be my 1st choice, i don't think he will play much for sheff utd this season. Exciting young players who could hit the ground running (he might be injured at the min tho)

Nobody has a crystal ball, we over achieved last season, loosing Amad is a big blow for us as we haven’t yet replaced him imo.
Like everything in football it’s a game of wait and see.

Hope your right mate, I’m not so confident I think Rusyn and one other but no idea what position the other will be

To get £8-10m at this stage would be brilliant business, if it is invested correctly and spent in this window. If it isnt and it ends up one striker in and one striker out then its suicide from Speakman and co, it will get toxic quickly. It also needs to be buys and not loans coming in. This striker situation has been ongoing for 12 months and going into the final couple of days of the window isn't very clever.
At this late stage a couple of PL loans wouldn't be the end of the world. I'd rather take Cannon on loan for £1m than risk £8m on him on a perm
