Sunderland are planning to offer an initial £3 million for Everton striker Tom Cannon as the Black Cats set their sights on promotion next season.

That is according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (9/7; page 63), which notes that the Toffees were not expecting permanent bids for the 20-year-old in this window.

Tony Mowbray’s men agonisingly missed out on promotion last term. And it is suggested that they are preparing a £3 million plus add-ons move for the Everton starlet.

Meanwhile, Luton and Preston North End also want the youngster

Rock on

Yup. We still need a core of established players who lead by example and set tone. Can dig out results when things are going against us. We need guys like.Baath and Pritchard..
Batth and Pritchard have been excellent for us. Evans as well.

Looking from another angle, we signed them to help us out of League 1 with the benefit of knowing they’d be good players in the Championship. Could we do something similar now by bringing in a couple of experienced, Premier League players to help us go up and knowing they could play at a higher level?

Edit - I know it sounds crazy but Roberts, Clarke, Batth, Evans and Pritchard all dropped down a level

If offered Cannon or Simms I’d have chosen Cannon so I’d be pleased with him. Think he offers more all round game than Simms

Hopefully we’ve been given a bit of positivity regarding simms or cannon. Maybe the reason we didn’t go for simms

Maybe Batth ‘personal reasons’ are the security of a 2 year deal.

He’s gotta get what he can in now and I’d fully understand that.

Be gutted if he went, as I’ve said many times the best leader we have had since my idol Bally.

Facts are though, he’s ageing and he’s slow. He was brilliant last season but could fall off a cliff.

I hope he remains but trust the club.

Cannon would be perfect but £3million seems ambitious for such a rated prospect.

We have a good working relationship with everton so would think it is. Would depend on how much they rate him , noises that they want to use him during pre season but that could be all bull just to drive the price up.

Sort of signing we should be looking at.

Yeah fits that flexible approach to differing positions where as Simms didn't. Would like it to happen but imagine it's going to take more than 3m. Probably be heavily incentive based.
Agreed, the thing i like with cannon is he can play upfront himself or in a front 2 as well.

Got good potential for sure and has the physicality youd want in a forward
