What makes you think that? Because of a random comment on a message board. With the window closing soon I would expect the recruitment team are working today and tomorrow.
The recruitment team will barely have taken a day off since the window has opened.

I know the team i scout for the guys have been doing ridiculous hours last 2 weeks as they try and get deals over the line

Didn't Southampton start with a 17yo up front yesterday, not sure tbh.

Window closing and the scramble will begin.

This. Some of our fans are the worst at times. Watch 90 minutes of football a week, pick their favourites from our squad, claim they’re better than they are and that’s that. Everyone else isn’t good enough. Same nuggets whinging about Diallo after a few games.
I thought Amad was poor at the start like. Happy enough to admit that.

Are we the only football club, neigh the only corporate business, in the world where the director level people disappear on weekends and bank holidays and business just goes on hold

I suppose it ties in with the lower level stuff, ticket office/club shop etc not being open bearly at all.
I was thinking more about getting FA clearance, international clearance etc. I have no doubt our club will be working tomorrow. I had assumed that deadline being the 1st was to allow for the bank holiday being disruptive.

Still remember a long ball was played up to Kenwyn who was on the edge of the area, the ball dropped between the penalty spot and 6 yard box, bloke behind me shouts for **** sake Kenwyn jump for it you lazy bastard, just sums up how some players can do nothing right in some supporters eyes

I went toe to toe with someone one day for slating Kenwyne.

Was a game we’d been poor he hadn’t had a sniff but he had, as always, headed away several corners into box.

‘lazy’ was bullshit. He had a certain stance but he was often our best CB and always trying to get on the end of stuff.

I loved Kenwyne me.

I never judge players on a handful of games, not even two handfuls. And if a player is a regular starter he loses the free pass of age or inexperience. It's not always the fault of the player, managers can keep playing them when it's obviously not working.

If I have a problem, with a particular player, I'll watch them throughout a game to see if I've got it wrong before voicing my opinion. But, of course, even the best players come in and out of form. I don't brand a player wonderful/useless and stick to it no matter what.

Even after scoring a brace on his debut I knew Rade Prica was going to be awful.

Roy didn't half waste some money.

I remember him buying David Healy from Fulham because Waghorn was injured for a couple of months even though we Jones, Cisse, Chopra and Diouf

Problem was that Keane was revered by the Drumaville lot that they never said no to him

Thought he was great, just had that relaxed "Carribean" gait that seemed effortless. I'd play him just for the goal celebrations

Just a bit of a left field suggestion, but I wonder if anyone as considered Neal Maupay at Everton. He fits our waifs and strays profile, only 27 years old so should be in his prime. I presume he would be on silly money, but for a loan fee similar to what we want to pay for Cannon, and to get them to stump up most of his wage, to me it’s good all round. Frees a place and some wages up in their squad and gives us an experienced striker with a point to prove.

Please god no.
Couldn’t finish his dinner and will be on massive wages.
Wouldn’t sign for us anyway.

I agree. Players often only show real capabilities after 20 or 30 games. You need to see them win and lose, make mistakes and do wonderful things, to see how they will get on, in my opinion. Loan players are different though, in my opinion. Likelihood is we have 40 games or so of them. I would therefore be expecting a more immediate performance level or the value diminishes. Lets say we sign Rusyn on a 4 year deal, and a loan striker for 40 games. I would happily watch Rusyn develop over the season, but would want a loanee to be quick off the mark.

Yeyyyyyy! I was just about to post this and three of you knackers have beaten me

Hopefully people can start calming down and cut the 'We don't have any strikers' posts down to less than twenty a day ...

... he's been playing twice a week so should be fit enough to go straight into the squad.

If we end up with three signings/loans this week I'd expect a few to be going, or at least out on loan.

We need another striker in case he gets injured.
