What do we make of these quotes from the Ronny Gill? The headline is positive, but the quotes from Mowbray seems to tell a different story....

I read that whole article and saw it completely differently tbh ...

... Mowbray, imo, seems to be loving it but is just warning people not to expect the young players to always come out on top.

People seem keen to create a scenario of conflict for whatever reason, the team spirit contradicts that tbh.

The club is absolutely buzzing, can't we just enjoy it.

I think some of the quotes from Tony are cautionary and he's dampening expectations. He knows that not all matches are going to go as Saturday, and at some point, things could well reverse and we'll get a hammering. The important thing is that the young players the recruitment team are bringing in respond to his coaching and can be moulded into a very good Championship team, something I think is happening, although I don't think it will be 100% success, one or two of these lads could find it difficult to settle and may not be here for long. One of the risks we take I suppose. One of the things he's alluded to in the past is the language difficulty. However,he was able to get Dack, undoubtedly his signing.....Pritch is still there,so there is some experience around and Evans is doing his bit in that regard despite his injury.O'Nien has just got an extended deal, they obviously recognise his dressing room contribution. I think I'm right in saying we have only one loan player,so he has a bit of continuity in prospect. Looking at the players during and after the match on Saturday, there seems to be a genuinely great fab spirit too. I think he's doing a great job.

I don't think the quotes are negative or positive I think they are meaningful and measured with some context throw in. TM has been in this game long enough to know how to drop a few hints without creating a storm. He knows not to blow his own trumpet and tries to level out expectations as an insurance for when the bad result comes. to be honest I am guessing that the reporter probably asked some questions to elicit a certain response from Tony and all that happened is his questions got swatted away with some carefully chosen words. And for clarity when the journalist talks of the Model he should really do his homework as all the club has said is that they are looking to build a squad capable of promotion and able to play premier league football. this almost tries to make it look like a fire sale of young talent which is not the case. Its not about profit it is about the development of the club as a whole.

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking a question about some quotes from the manager that could be interpreted a different way. Not trying to stop anyone enjoying it it, but we can't ignore the elephant in the room that is the manager's future..........

Haway man, be honest, you're posting negatives and saying things aren't as positive as we believe.

That's not really a question about his future, you're saying there's conflict and division.

Perhaps you're right, perhaps I'm naive.

I believe TM has a contract until the end of the season, I would expect contract negotiations to start fairly soon for TM as well as PR and any other players with 1 year or less left on their contracts.
I hope the club puts value on TM but I would only expect them to give out a 2 year contract as most managers don't seem to last very long these days so to give a 4 year would seem at this present time not a great financial decision, but if the club were to offer him a 3 or 4 year contract I would be happy with that as well as it shows how they value his work.

The whole coaching set up would take some replacing.

If Mowbray goes does that all collapse.

Didn't say anything of the sort Smug. I just found quotes like "The model? Stick to the plan, Tony? I've heard it so many times." a bit odd when we've just won 5-0.

Yes, he's answering questions that he's been asked, but why bring up stuff like the model/telling us all he's "not storming into Speakman's office" - why say it at all?

Check my posting history - I'm not a negative person, if anything I've been accused of being a happy clapper over the years. I just find things like his comments after the Luton game, the supposed "problems behind the scenes" that Nick Barnes spoke about, the hour long "meeting" with Speakman after the Crewe game all adding to the narrative that Mogga won't be here next season. I hope I'm wrong, am loving the football we play and the way he manages this group but you can't say there's not something in the background.

Sounds to me like he's bored with being asked the same questions from people suggesting he's at odds with the club.

These comments aren't him 'bringing issues up', they're answers to direct questions imo.

Tell you what was positive.

Ekwah & Jacky end of match interview. Absolutely shat on the ‘several players are unhappy’ line from Thursday night.
Will give them a listen :emoticon-0148-yes:

Or he's sick of the anti Sunderland agenda driven by the scum press...

I picked out the quotes that interested me most. The quotes you have added are what I'd expect the manager to say after a 5-0 win.
You are a great poster TC and I get where you are coming from, but I think Mowbray is tempering the expectations of players and fans in this article, keeping everyone's feet firmly planted. Exactly what a good manager should do.
He often mentions three defeats on the bounce in his interviews and looking at the reaction to our poor start to the season, I can see where he is coming from.
KTF there will always be bumps along the road. It's how you manage them that counts

We all know Mogga wasn’t meant to be a long term appointment, and that outlook is only changed by what he achieved.

If he continues to achieve he likely remain.
You can’t not like the fella.

Amad saying ‘I’ll go back if Mowbray still there’ says it all, the development of players says more.

I don’t think any old school gaffer like Mowbray will ever be 100% happy with how business is done nowadays, but he’s adapted with the game and he’s adapted to changing times and I think he’s comfortable working with it .

People saying he looked unhappy earlier in season, well he did. As did we, as was the tone on these forums as we started slow (despite clearly being a good side in ALL games)

He didn’t look unhappy saturday did he? Bloke lives and breathes the game I don’t wanna see him all smiles on the back of a loss or a weak run cos that means his hearts no longer in it.

Totally agree marra.

How many milliseconds would it take you to choose ...

... if you could go to a neutral match with either Mowbray of Russell Martin.

One seems to love the game and would be a laugh, the other seems self obsessed and anguished.

Martin may well be out of a job sooner imo.

Is there really an elephant in the room TC?
TMs interviews are always full of thought and insight to me. He praised his young charges but equally warns we will have worse days than Saturday which is absolutely true.
He's trying to keep expectations low and that's fair enough for me.
