It's more the principle rather than the quantity. If this guy (or any other for that matter) was going to change things up front, then he should have been brought in. If nothing happened regarding offers near the club's valuations for Le Fondre, Jones etc, Slade (Tan) could always cut his losses and virtually give away a few like he's done before - Burgstaller, Eikrem, Cala spring to mind, and even Hudson after we got Manga on board.
I understood and sort of agree with the principal. An African striker with no experience of English football coming from an average French side represents a gamble at best. I think our gambling £2m days are well and truly behind us. Bristol City should celebrate as after that comment as he's destined to be Championship top scorer and sold for £10m + next summer .
I accept being an Ivory Coast national doesn't make Kodjia automatically into a Drogba. Kalou or a Bony, but those players came from a fairly obscure European footballing background before they hit the big time over here. If journeymen like Revell and Doyle are the answer to success in this division and the future, I'll take my hat off to Slade and Tan. In the meantime, it looks like we just need to keep scanning Leagues 1 and 2 for a clue as to who'll we take on board this season.
Anelka cost £500k, Adebayor was available for peanuts the year before he moved to the PL. Michu is probably a good example too of how the right guy in the right team can smash any preconceptions and make a transfer fee look ridiculously low. Michu's also a great example of sometimes you need to know when to sell too. I know absolutely nothing about the guy, he might be sensational. The fact us and Bristol City were the interested parties isn't the most ringing endorsement however. I'm not saying any more about him though as I've probably doomed us already to watching him score one of the best hatricks ever seen at the CCS........ Revel is a journeyman no doubt about it. If he's every more than 4th choice striker we'll be a lot nearer L1 than the PL. However Mason, Macheda (lets not start ), Doyle are better than that imo. The supply and the quality of the midfield was our issue all last season. Signing more strikers to not have any chances created isn't the solution. We seem very dependent on our fat missing man in centre mid at the moment. If he plays 40 odd matches we've probably got all the other pieces of the puzzle already in place. If he drops of the planet like he did after a few minutes as a sub at Wolves last season we'll be back to Whits and Gunnar unless Ralls can seriously step up. It's been the same story all summer but we need a dominant centre mid or we're hanging our top 6 hopes on a guy that barely kicked a ball last season. On the flip side if he is fit it could work, we'll certainly struggle to attract or sign better than him if he's fit.
It wasn't just us and the wurzels Stevo - why he picked them I don't know. http://www.first4lcfc.co.uk/blog/premier-league-clubs-miss-out-on-ivorian-striker/
How close KFC is to their stadium? Cheap easy jet flights to all over Europe? ...... I'm starting to struggle. Would seem like he's not sure of his own ability if he's picked a promoted Championship side over that apparent level of PL interest.
I'm not. Doubt anyone will willing sump up enough to meet our valuation, which is basically what we bought him for. Also, looks like we still may lose Marshy. However, Moore looks like a decent replacement. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/west-brom-contact-cardiff-city-9767005
Just about to post that myself sheepy. If the price is right......... I've also been impressed with what I've seen of Moore.
I notice Gestede just left for Aston Villa for 6 million. Any of that coming our way given we sold him for 200k????
A transfer on the management side. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/...nt-former-birmingham-9764057#rlabs=2 category Surprised this has been sanctioned by Tan given some of his homophobic comments. Specifically given the reasons for MMs dismissal.
Could be useful. His pace and movement caused us problems Friday night. We would need to adopt a passing style to suit him as lumping it up in the air wouldn't do any good. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/.../cardiff-city-transfer-news-bluebirds-9775761
ALF to go - at last. Didn't expect Wolves though. One good thing, if on loan he can't play against us and score!!! http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cardiff-city-striker-adam-le-9780290
Baby Ben gone north as well............ http://www.crewealex.net/news/article/crewe-complete-ben-nugent-signing-2589962.aspx
So much for Ben captaining Cardiff then. Another Malky prophecy blown out of the water. Good luck to the lad. It was always going to be tough for him to break through when centre back has been one of our strongest areas. Another reduction in our wage bill although unlikely to be more than a couple of grand or so a week. On the negative side, another example of a youngster coming through the ranks who hasn't made the grade.
ALF gone to Wolves on season loan. They are to pay £16k per week wages and he can't play against us. In a perverse way I hope he is successful there and scores plenty against sides competing with us. An interesting comparison. We got Ameobi Wolves get ALF. Wonder who will be more successful? Also we offload ALF's wages. What are we paying Ameobi? Anyway with further costs knocked off the wage bill surely we can now get in someone new who can enhance the squad - and give us something positive to talk about.
I assume Trollope must be doing most of the coaching as I can't imagine Slade having much time given all the wheeling and dealing he must be doing to move players on (not that he's spending much time bringing players in). It can only be good for the team for the players who don't want to be here or are not needed (being polite - wanted) to be moved on. Get to a close knit squad who will get game time (or at least can see the possibility) before making any further changes. The more I think about it the bigger a challenge I realise Slade was set after the MM and OGS mismanagement of the squad. (Choo and the rest of the board must shoulder a chunk of the blame as well for allowing it to happen). Anyway, enough looking back. Onwards and (hopefully) upwards. I think we are in a much better place than we were 6 months ago but I can't help but feel anxious about the season to come. my glass is half and half at the moment. As for transfer news, Super Kev has signed for Wigan, Rudy (with a snazzy new mop of hair) to Villa for £6M. Noone isn't signing for WBA and we're not signing Kevin Nolan. Why is it papers have to tell us who we're not signing. There are **** loads of players we're not signing and most of our squad are not signing for someone else. Right, as for today, I'm not going to skin a rabbit nor climb mount Everest. Hope that clarifies things for everyone.
nope. about half way down the article. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/scott-johnson-rudy-gestede-might-9799382 There were highlights and he was popular with supporters, but in my opinion there was nothing to suggest that he would go on to score a goal every other game for Rovers. Otherwise, Cardiff would have asked for a lot more money and inserted a sell-on clause in the agreement. Here is the real source of frustration - Cardiff won’t see a penny of the £6m Blackburn will receive from Villa. This is not for the first time
