Going to bow out of this Henderson debate now before I just repeat myself 40 times. But i'll leave you with this, if we were bringing in a 35 y/o midfielder to be the top earner (more than likely) who wasn't a local lad, what would your opinion be?
Going to do the same mate, nothing interesting for me to add to it. Will support him when on the pitch but a lot of water under the bridge for me and don’t think it’s what we’re going to need anyways.

We’re in an exciting moment and these threads are cracking, don’t want to add to the political side of the game to them anymore, which we’ve seen from further down the pyramid is trying to kill our game.

seen posted earlier but is drewsbury hall a realistic and/or good signing at prem level?

terribly incendiary that

a quick google tells you he signed for Moscow in January 2022 and the whole thing in Ukraine kicked off in February

some brush to tar him with that, poor.

I was playing devils advocate. He decided to remain in Russia, indeed later signing for a new Russian club, despite the conflict.

My point was that being completely against Hendo purely because he played in Saudi when we’ve signed players who’ve chosen to play in objectively worse places is incorrect. We shouldn’t necessary be blaming players for playing in countries as nothing is black and white.

Being against him for footballing reasons is entirely different.

The age he is he won’t be under any illusions. He’ll be coming back to be a club captain type not a box to box midfielder who starts every game. He’s a Sunderland lad and Sunderland fan. He ****ed up and was rightly criticised. Don’t we all. I’m with Scout. The narrative about the mags and the Saudis is weakened if we get him but to be honest I prefer the narrative 8 in a row so I’d rather we improved as a club and won the derby games. Hendersons biggest asset is he knows that league more than any of our staff and I’d rather we had that on our side.

Our last league derby was a draw after the 6 in a row I believe. 1-1 Defoe scored.

Dewsbury hall probably isn't realistic, wages would be too high

Class player tho

I think this is a big problem we face when even looking at the bigger clubs fringe/young players.

Chelseas for example, I wouldn’t be surprised that their 30th highest earner would be our biggest (maybe excluding ELF). Brutal balancing act for speakman.

He’d be ideal. Chelsea wages though you’re right.

Only hope would be he wants to play every week or a loan and they cover a massive chunk.
Yeah they'll likely have to cover his wages if he was to move on

Wouldn’t want us going above £60k p/w or so. And even those that high should have a c30% relegation wage drop clause

You can wiggle 60k with either a pay off from Chelsea or a signing on fee.

Then the lad might also want to play.

20k week at that tax level is a lot less than 20k a week hit to the lad as well.

Amazing how many people didn’t want him back when he went to Saudi. There was a lot of virtue signalling going on but as soon as it’s something that they feel could benefit Sunderland their morals go out the window.

No different to Newcastle supporters dropping their morals and accepting the Saudis as soon as it benefitted them.
I’ve never gave a single **** personally myself

I mean tbf if the lad had the experience he does and was still getting called up for England I wouldn’t be complaining about having that option at all myself but I can see why some would

Every recruitment this summer has to fit the dressing room....which,by all accounts,is a really happy place,together,spirited....no egos.

Because he can't move. I'd rather an actual contributor than someone with 'experience' in situations we won't be in.
Is this not just hyperbole? I don’t think he’d still be getting called out to England personally and have multiple PL clubs interested if he couldn’t move anymore

He wouldn't be in the squad if Wharton was fit and the u21 Euros weren't happening.

Plus, him being in a ball dominant team is fine. He got I think 95 touches per game at Ajax, here he'll be lucky to get 40/50. So we can't hide his lack of speed and power like Ajax and England can.
