Absolutely. Context is everything. Just from a footballing perspective I don't get it but I hope I am proved wrong.
from a football perspective I agree entirely. He’s the wrong profile of player. Next season is going to be more about what we do off the ball than on it.
It’s so polarised man. If Hendo wasn’t one of ours, it wouldn’t be. It would be a hard no all round. We should consider that.
That’s what makes it worthwhile mate the gap is huge between prem and champ and we have a team of youngsters you sign a lad still in the England squad who knows what it means to Sunderland, has won everything in football, can be a leader to everyone, and provide something at the back end of games. why say no
Could it be Henderson might come in some sort of coaching capacity and retain his playing registration for the off chance he is needed... Just a thought
He was the very last footballer i would have expected to go to Saudi Arabia. The very last. Terrible decision. Most footballers you could shake your head at but eventually excuse or forgive. He can't be forgiven. His attempt at defending his decision was vomit inducing. He totally spoilt his, sometimes self promoting, spotlessly clean legacy in the worst legal way he could have. He comes across as an intelligent man. What he did was brainlessly greedy. He surely had people around him? Family members and friends? Paid advisors? Reminding him of the rank hypocrisy a Saudi move would highlight? He must have ignored them. Shameful.
Didn't like the Saudi thing and still don't now. But purely from a footballing standpoint I think it's a bad signing. You need running power in the PL, especially in midfield. He doesn't have experience in relegation battles and the so called 'experience' he does have didn't stop Ajax from suffering one of the worst end of season collapses i've ever seen. I think it's a really poor signing.
I do keep seeing the ‘still in England squad’ but that a joke. Will he be in it when it’s not business end of season and clubs are asking for players to be left out? Not a chance IMO.
where do you do the line tho? do I have to pie all my scaf mates who work in Riyadh? Do I have to pie all my mates who holiday in Dubai, an economy built on modern day slavery. I don’t think what he did was particularly egregious at all. gonna to bow out before it gets political, appreciate you’re point of view and I do understand.
I think it's entirely possible that our recruitment people can come up with someone who can do what we'd expect from Jordan, who's 6 or 7 years younger, got some experience,ok,maybe not as much, but is more mobile and who more fits our MO.
Because he can't move. I'd rather an actual contributor than someone with 'experience' in situations we won't be in.
terribly incendiary that a quick google tells you he signed for Moscow in January 2022 and the whole thing in Ukraine kicked off in February some brush to tar him with that, poor.
Going to bow out of this Henderson debate now before I just repeat myself 40 times. But i'll leave you with this, if we were bringing in a 35 y/o midfielder to be the top earner (more than likely) who wasn't a local lad, what would your opinion be?
