I'd probably hate that even more.

I see a player who will want to coach in Henderson. He is a very good communicator which is part 1. I can see a world where he does his badges with his next club while shadowing the coaching team. Playing a bit part on the pitch when needed. Not sure that is us tbh.

I do understand the argument he has lost his ability to get round the pitch. And in our way of play it wont work at all. So I struggle to see how he plays personally. Even seeing a game out you are going to need legs.

Joked about Tillman yesterday as there’s massive value having a US player in the PL.

Based on that, and the decent sounding opinions from those who know about him, seems a decent look.

I mean if Fulham fancy hoying us Robinson that would be nice as well <laugh>

Staggered he is still there.

Do people really buy into this idea?

I mean, so long as expectations are tempered ie the player is now old and will obviously have diminished physical attributes, I don't see it as being real, like losing to Coventry since the 70's or Sheff Utd can't win at Wembley etc these are all statistics waiting to be broken.
I’m indifferent on him coming back, based on the fact I’ve not watched him play since he left Liverpool and those that have seem to think he will struggle with the pace of the prem, if he comes back fine, he’ll get my backing as will anyone that puts on the shirt just not one that gets my pulse going, can see the logic in it given his experience and the age of the squad though

I'm unsure on this because this is EFL rules but we are still an EFL club technically but think we should be getting the released/retained list by Friday, think by rule it has to be given to the EFL/FA 4 days after your final playoff game.

I'd imagine that's when ELF will be announced as our player.

I have been thinking, which is probably mistake number 1 in my case. I have, I think, fallen into a trap of thinking Ballard starts next season. Largely based on his 3 play off games. Those were a bit unique in that we knew we needed someone to head it 20 od times a game away from danger. How many prem teams will play that way against us?

I think we might well need two new CBs on reflection. I look at premier league teams and they are rapid in the final 3rd, either in terms of pace, or in terms of thought. We will need real pace in our back line, along reading the game and ability to play. We dont really have that do we? Is Cirkin the quickest? I think we need two quick, mobile centre backs that can play on the deck. Those wont be cheap. But may well be the most important pieces of the jigsaw we are missing right now? I fear we become too easy to play through without real pace at CB. A Van De Ven type would be grand...

Singo who we've been liked with today would fill that mould nicely. I'd definitely be starting Ballard which I definitely wasn't saying a month ago.

Yep I think we are all guilty of that because he was so good in those 3 games. I do think Ballard can step up but we need more pace at the back

A couple mentioned that they didn't think Mpeham was good enough and we should be looking at better. Think I'm in agreement now, I wouldn't be against Mepham tbh and while he was good last season I don't think he was a standout (hence him being dropped for last 3 games) - but we can sign better

Ballard, O'Nien, Mepham and 2 new CBs would be a solid group. Wouldn't be against Seelt or Alese being in there instead of Mepham though.

I think this is a fair take. Ballard has struggled for the past year imo but was utterly tremendous in the playoffs.

Think the problem we have is, we have a budget and we can’t replace everyone. So out of the squad we will have to rely on some of them to hopefully make the step up. I think Ballard fits that category of one we will have to give the chance to and look to use the resources we have elsewhere.

Side note - there’s something about alese at cb that I think there’s an outside chance he could feature next year. Has the physical/pace side we need but so unreliable. If our cb options are Ballard/alese/onien/Meptham and then a key signing on top, that may be fine. Tough decisions though, glad I’m not in speakmans shoes.
