It's a popular narrative that people are spouting. no idea why, it's as if some are desperate for the club to be in chaos

Anyone who'd just come out of a coma, and looked at the forums, would think Donald and Methven had bought their shares back ...

... the entire club has needed sorting out from top to bottom and the mistakes of the past avoided.

We've had players to get out of the club and others, like Grigg, still to shift. We've had to line up possible replacements for McGeady/O'Nien/Hume/Emberton. Not only that, we're competing with other clubs all chasing the same group of players willing, and able, to play in L1.

I doubt any club is entirely happy with what they have ...

... except Wigan, according to the 'realists', who might have got it completely wrong.

A player is only being played out of position if he can't play that position. If Winchester becomes our first choice right back, whats the problem? Playing him there doesn't seem to have caused us many problems in preseason.
Players swap positions sometimes. I watched a half decent defensive midfielder on Saturday, someone later told me he used to be a striker. In fact, Dwight Yorke did that for us, didn't he? All this stuff about 'specialist full-backs' is just panic for panics sake imo. Would be good to free people up to play their preferred positions but if they are good enough in another position, there's no issue.

Winchester is a better full back than those we had there last season imo ...

... even Sanderson who's a very good player.

".... even players bought in pre-season take time to fit in and for the whole team to gel."

Yet a 17 year old looked, from day one, like he'd been in the side for years ...

... Evans looked quite at home when he played.
In friendlies and when everyone else was just returning for preseason too.

They might have looked a little less settled joining two weeks into the season though.

Do you? What makes you say that?

I used the words "think" and "may", not because I want to sit on the fence over it or claim I meant either way, but just to indicate that its a gut feel.

I have no evidence for it - just from everything going on and everything they're saying, it just feels to me like they were expecting it to be smoother.

I definitely don’t think KLD or Speakman or any of them are “out of their depth”, which would be a ridiculous thing to say.

I do think however they may have been taken by surprise at how difficult this would be in the short term. Nothing wrong with that and they’ll learn lessons. They absolutely seem the type of group that will sit down to reflect when all this is done.

I still have every confidence that this window will end up successful and that future windows with this regime will feel smoother.
At last we have a strategy which was highlighted a couple of months ago by the signing of a number of players mostly released by Premier League clubs to fit in to our U23 squad , the idea of having the team who narrowly missed out on promotion strengthened emphasised the change in our management style . At the time it was said that the players recruited would be able to play in the manner Johnson wants the first team to be styled - absolutely shocking having this amount of thought and planning appearing at our club isn’t it when we’re not used to it !!!

Taylor gone now too. Another one of Parkinson’s boys away from the club - good.
Where has the info come from? I can't get on to SAFC.com for some reason.

Edit: just seen it over the road from training ground guru. Why the **** do we find this out from other sources? Are they incapable of putting it on Twitter.

Safc are certainly not skint. You can see that with the money invested into the infrastructure behind the scenes. It's a decent amount.

There are multiple cash bids in for players. Simply comes down to stricter negotiations. We all want deals to close quicker that's for sure. Be heading back off here after this as just come on quickly as I can imagine the negativity hitting fever point now.

On a personal note, I am for strict negotiations but they are putting themselves into a situation and simply need to close deals now.
Cheers for that mate , if your positive and over the road are on melt down that will do for me

People still just overlooking a great pre season when we deservedly beat a team a league up and destroyed a competitive team from the league below.

There’s no team in this league with a 30 man, balanced first team squad. Not one.

We have to forget we are Sunderland and remember we are League One.

I’m serene for Saturday arms have faith we will have players in by the end of the window, which is 4.5 weeks away.

Are folk suggesting we haven’t a team for Saturday? Cos we ****ing have. One of the strongest in the league even as it stands, with 30k plus behind us.

We all want signings, let’s not start tearing down the new regime for trying to do things right.

Teams signing players we didn’t ****ing want and folk screaming ‘look what they did!’. Have a word man.
I'd also be much happier starting this season with what we already have than what we finished last season with.
Yes we need more signings but even now I think we are already stronger than last year

We seem to have adopted an 'O'Nien strategy' with players.

Winchester is capable of playing midfield and full back, as he did in one match against Hull ...

... Corry Evans has played well at centre half, like his brother at Leicester and looked good in midfield.

Perhaps the friendlies were what they should be, trying out different positions etc.

I'd happily play O'Brien, wide right, opposite McGeady which would help the RB. Whatever you think of him I find his work rate excellent and he's decent at occupying defenders, making a pass and holding the ball. With the likes of Emberton running through midfield I don't think we need another McGeady wide right. It certainly didn't work when we had Jones there.

Never get the AOB grief me mate, most of our best team performances are when he plays.

Like you say, he’s so busy it frees up space.

Some people have just taken against him and that won't change. But I've noticed McGeady always seems happier when he plays. He's very good at receiving the ball wide, holding a defender off and playing the ball inside for Gooch or whoever.
