Yes let's bring back Vokins and McFadzean ...

... problem solved <laugh>

I'm all for realism but this flood of pessimism is ridiculous. The season hasn't started, the window hasn't closed ...

... but it's as if some people are addicted to being miserable.
The way I put it through the Euros was that the pessimists were almost delighted when Italy equalised l almost to the point of celebrating. Then they were glad when our 3 lads missed penalties.
That is exactly how some SAFC fans are as well!! Desperate to fail so they can say “told you so”

It's almost like they see it as a badge of honour or something...

Some people have just taken against him and that won't change. But I've noticed McGeady always seems happier when he plays. He's very good at receiving the ball wide, holding a defender off and playing the ball inside for Gooch or whoever.
Im not a fan of AOB because of the fact he's never impressed me when he's on the ball, but what I think he does well is all the **** stuff he does off the ball. His movement pulls defenders, he winds them up, niggles on at them. I think he's probably a right little twat to defend against

This is exactly it. You need busy arse players like that to create space, hold the ball and harass.

When we signed him people had his card marked from day 1 because he was released by Millwall.

There’s a poisonous element that we will never remove, we seeing it towards the new owners and staff already.

I know a few personally who are the same, never understand it. The ones I know personally I would class as ‘less than successful’ at life. Can’t speak for all of course.

I remember squaring up to someone re Kenwyne in the North Stand. Was a face I had never seen sat around us before and he started minute 1. Kenwyne cleared 4-5 corners away at near post and scored that day.

AOB will never be a striker cos he can't seem to hit a ball. I was impressed with him against Hull though, his work rate was excellent, nothing fancy win the ball and pass it. I've seen it a few times with him last season and he will do a job for us there

He shouldn’t be a regular starter, imo, but can contribute over the course of the season.

I think a front 4 of Stewart, McGeady, Embleton and Gooch will be the way forward.

I’m accepting we may not get anyone in until several games into season now. If it brings in the correct quality guess that will do even though not ideal. If we still haven’t sorted it by then though failure. P45s all round :emoticon-0105-wink:

I agree. Reckon we are waiting for the final rush (think Speakman said it was going to be last 2.5 wks)

Seems to be a struggle for most teams getting players to sign (Ipswich & Wigan being exceptions) with most in league one signing around 5 players so far - I think Rotherham have only signed 2?

Some clubs haven’t even signed a player yet (*cough* *cough* Newcastle *cough* *cough*) - obviously in a different league but it’s worth pointing out that most are waiting towards the end of the window.

We seem to have adopted an 'O'Nien strategy' with players.

Winchester is capable of playing midfield and full back, as he did in one match against Hull ...

... Corry Evans has played well at centre half, like his brother at Leicester and looked good in midfield.

Perhaps the friendlies were what they should be, trying out different positions etc.

I'd happily play O'Brien, wide right, opposite McGeady which would help the RB. Whatever you think of him I find his work rate excellent and he's decent at occupying defenders, making a pass and holding the ball. With the likes of Emberton running through midfield I don't think we need another McGeady wide right. It certainly didn't work when we had Jones there.
I think AOB’s workrate is fine but I disagree on position. He’s a target player for me like, number 9. Hustling and bustling and has a decent first touch, not a number 10 he looks lost. Would need a player alongside him though which I think makes him the wrong player for our set up. Plus he looks like he’s lost a load of confidence in front of goal.

Did he ever have confidence in front of goal?

Not really transfer related, but not deserving it's own thread. If Winchester can play right back (and did at Oldham) why did Power play right back last season?

Surely not just because he was captain.
