You have to take the plunge at some point. If Clarke didn't go it would've more than likely been another season without a suitable forward, this at least gives us a chance of signing one along with improving the rest of the squad.

When you are beginning the process of building a player trading model you unfortunately have to accept one or two fees which are lower than what you wanted just to get the ball rolling. Gyokeres and Hamer were worth more than what Coventry got for them, Philogene and Greaves were worth more than Hull got for them, Rowe is worth more than an initial loan with an obligation to buy.

We just haven't been shafted either, the fee is pretty standard for the level of player and type of player he is.

Would have been more upset and annoyed at losing Dan Neil or Dan Ballard than I am Clarke

Players going up with a promoted club will almost certainly have written in their contract the event of relegation means a reduction in their salary.... I would find it difficult to believe that any club going up wouldn't do that....but could be wrong
 
Seems to me that the reality of the current JC situation is

1. The club has accepted an offer which it believes was the best it could achieve this window with time to utilise the same to bring in replacements

2. None of us know what the price is nor what the "add ons" are and it is highly unlikely we ever will.

3. None of us know what % of the price will be paid back to Spurs or over what period and it is highly unlikely that we ever will.

So we can argue over stuff where we don`t know any of the detail - why wouldn`t we - we all support the club and are entitled to a view. I hope that we can all agree though that those who make the decisions will have had the best interests of the club at heart. Whether we think they have done the "right thing" is where the debate comes from...

One important piece of the picture, it seems to me anyway, is that allowing JC to leave to a Premier League club sends an important message to the other members of the current squad AND to future recruits. It seems to me that "the model" (recruiting young players, developing them and selling them for a profit) requires us to be able to demonstrate to those we are looking to recruit that if they progress as we want them to and if that means an appropriate offer comes in from a team higher up the pyramid then we won`t stand in their way - the sale of JC speaks volumes in this respect.

We would all prefer that the better players we have get the chance to play PL football with SAFC but whether that will be possible is far from certain.

If we had said to JC "sorry Jack - you`re under contract for the next [2?] years and we`re not letting you leave" that would have had serious adverse consequences to the recruitment process and the next round of negotiations with the likes of Bellingham/Neil/Ballard...I imagine that part of the process we have been through recently with them has been to give assurances that "if the right offer comes in we`ll let you leave and wish you well...". If I was representing any of them, I`d want those assurances - who wouldn`t?

Anyway - I`m heading up for my first game of the season at the weekend and hoping for a cracking game with maybe a few new players on the pitch at half-time...

I think it's very clear Clarke wanted the move, that's fair enough as well. His prerogative

The last few pages have been enlightening and I've got some solid life advice:

1) Have some balls.
2) Don't be a cock sucker.
3) Don't have your pants pulled down and get shafted.

Over the road, they've been very informative about "cucks" too.

There's too much protesting going on. I think the negative fans are upset because they've missed their chance to **** Jack Clarke.

I think the fee itself, if its correct at £15m plus add ons, is lower than we would have hoped to get. However, for us to get to the numbers of say £20m plus add ons it would have probably needed others to get involved in the bidding process and that hasn't materialised.

Good luck to Clarke, they are a decent club Ipswich, it will be interesting to see if he settles down there as he seems to be a bit of a home bird.

Looking forward to seeing what we can do with the proceeds of the sale.

Seri has left Hull, they still need to do a lot of work with the rest of the window

Ash phillips to stoke on loan is a good signing, really like the look of him
