Summer '24 transfer window

We've spent money on plenty players in the last 24 months. Just because the likes of Mundle, Aouchiche, Jobe, Rusyn, Hemir, Pembele. Mayenda, Ba, Benette, Triantis & Seelt were signed for "undisclosed fees" doesn't mean we didn't spend money.

I mentioned that list in one of my first posts on here. Millions have been spent and the list above could easily be £10M plus wages. ? Owner issued new working capital I think two years ago. ? One of the reasons the previous owner SD was diluted ? Could that be done now ? Maybe but I'm not up to the financial affairs. I'm assuming they're not prepared to do it at the moment ?

RLB comments here on a possible player to exit but that could be a routine answer ? It wouldn't be a surprise to posters on here if he was away to make a deal in the next few weeks.

Regarding promotion posts earlier . Just get up I say and capture the £150m from the TV etc. That's huge . All speculation but could easily spend £50M and hold back £100M . We'd be quids in. Established even if we're instantly relegated. Playing the model game could take years and not saying it's wrong. How do we keep the squad together over 5 years and more. Get a few players in this month and give it a right old go. Haway !!

I love the optimism mate but your not really praising him for hitting the target from here are you?
Id love him to he a success, but unfortunately at this moment in time he's miles away from being a Championship striker. I really hope he comes good, ill support any player that wears our shirt, but sometimes you just need to be brutally honest, and he's just really not very good at the moment. On the plus side he's still very young though so he has lots of time to develop, i just hope its not starting games with us this season though.

i always try to be optimistic with players and try to look from different angles but yes he should have buried it as (imo) the striker had the upper hand.

had this been the 10th game and he had a couple of goals to his name i reckon he would have handled it better, unfortunately he is a lad learning his trade in real time, i do not think he is 'the answer' right now and signing a decent front man has to be priority...that said, out of the three options we have currently, i would say he is 'first choice' and i like hemir and rusyn, all show aspects in thier game that i like to see.

mayenda needs to come on with maybe 20 mins or so and no pressure on him, needs to get used to the championship, needs to learn the moves needed to get away from big strong defenders...time will tell if he ever gets there but right now he is looking the best choice.

I'm not even talking about Mendy either, because I understand not wanting to pay 4/5 million or whatever for a 30 year old striker who's never played outside of France.

Just if another option was there, like say, a prominent foreign striker or even someone like Stansfield, I'd like to think we'd have good financial power there, for that sole signing.

It stands out a mile that a good, natural centre forward will massively improve this already talented team. That's the frustration really as it stands imo.

Wouldn't be against adding a solid c.back as well if one becomes available.

I think Stansfield has been discounted because of his height/physical presence and cost.

Fulham are looking for £10m not £6m as previously reported. he also doesn't have some of the attributes we're looking for. So I've heard.

He looks more of a touch player - good technically who will get in good positions to score goals, but not one who will bully defenders and hold up the ball...

We're looking for a powerhouse goalscorer, an old fashioned English number 9 if you like, minimum 6ft 2in, probably a decent size in terms of strength ie 13 stone with low body fat.

There are very few of these types around Europe. I'm convinced Mendy will sign on deadline day, he'll have a good season with us, in the 15-20 bracket come May.

I agree that it is a dilemma whether to stick or twist. In my opinion, currently 7 players (Patterson, Huggins, Ballard, Cirkin, Jobe, Neil and Clarke) could be deemed as players who COULD hold their own in the Premier League, with Roberts, Hume, Alese and Browne as back up players. Jury's still out on a few others.

With all the best will in the world, 50M will not get you 4 first-teamers and 7 back-up players in the Premier League, so we would need to spend a lot more of the TV Money as you put it. Look at Forest. They spent something like £150m and narrowly avoided relegation.
If we are instantly relegated, we would have the parachute money plus 100M plus from the sale of the 7 players listed above, who, having tasted the "delights" of the Premiership, will probably want to stay there. Having all this money is all well and good, but our squad will have been decimated in one window and we would effectively be starting the rebuild again. Do we continue to build for the next year or so, so we've got 11 players of Premiership quality when we go up, to give us a better chance of staying up? That's part of the dilemma.

The other side of the coin, as you rightly point out, is that we are unlikely to be able to hold on to those 7 players listed above for more than 1-2 years. How long will it take for their replacements to reach the same standards of the players we have sold? So, not going for it could present a problem too.

I'm more for the steady approach, as I can't see us losing all 7 in the same window, as we probably would if we went up then came straight back down. I think we should be starting to sell and re-invest now though, as if we don't go up this season, I can see at least four of the 7 moving on next summer and they will take some replacing all at once.

I would be happy for us to pay that money for Stansfield btw. Less so for Mendy because he’s new to English football and older, I’d love Stansfield (or similar)

If we were to go up, the wage bill will almost certainly immediately rise significantly too, just for the players we've already got.

Mendy has 60 goals in the last three seasons, with respect to the younger lads, they've yet to do it at senior level. Mendy has to be the one.

If we actually had a physical presence in the middle, you'd see us use that outlet, no point banging crosses in for Rusyn, who was probably our main striker last season.

Very small sample size but I think we changed that on Saturday. Mayenda had 4 shots, 1 huge chance and 3 half chances. We looked to get the ball to him a whole lot more than last season as well, even if it didn't stick.

Agree. If we have a presence in the box, the midfielders will start putting more balls in.

aye said this to my brother when watching. Last season it felt like even when the striker was free, our players were reluctant to pass it to him. This weekend they were passing to him as much as any other player.
