He could score 10 in 10 games and he'd still need some assistance given his age and lack of experience.

Aye, as I said no dispute we need one.

Didn’t harm the likes of Rooney, Rashford and dare I say Shearer to get hoyed in.

Owen, Fowler…

Jude.

Who knows mate. There’s plenty precedent for someone grabbing their chance

Would Ugbo even work with how we play? Probably not.

I’m personally quite serene with the striker situation.

Don’t get me wrong I’ll be far happier when we get one in, and Mendy seems a savvy move, but I’m actually quite fascinated by Mayenda.

Even if he takes a little while to find feet and score, the lad is absolutely rapid and we haven’t had that in a forward since maybe Cisse.

That stretches the game and opens up space if we can get him making decoy runs, tie in with Paddy looking very decent in pre-season and there’s a bit there.

Mayenda
Jacky- AA - Paddy

It’s such an unpredictable front 4. But one I think could stretch teams all over the place and out of shape.

The most predictable is Jacky, but he is unstoppable whilst being so, on his game.

Nobody in the league has much better than Browne & Dan backing that up.
One kick on the ankle Satirday or hamstring tweak and we are left with no one. We need to sort something fast.

Couple of goals in his 1st couple of games could be a game changer for Mayenda. It's all about confidence and momentum - look at the start Maja got

Again mate, I’ve never suggested we don’t need one in.

Just saying who knows, one of them, most likely Mayenda, might click.

Has he any less experience than Stansfield had last summer, when if we’d got him everyone would have been buzzing?

Best of luck to Embo. Had it tough with injuries but I have always liked to watch him play. A true 2 footed player with great technical ability. We will always remember Wembley. My seat was next to the massive scoreboard and I nearly stacked it over the top, when his shot went it.

Hopefully we move Hemir and Benette on in the next 48 hours and can use the freed spade to invest into greater quality.

Yes probably. Stansfield had a successful loan at Exeter. I think he may come good but he needs easing in not knocking his confidence

Last season I think Stansfield would have been seen by most as underwhelming to be honest. Only when he started well that people realised we’d missed out.

Yes. Stansfield had over 3000 minutes of first team football under his belt before last season, Mayenda has around 500.

Striker situation looks like this to me:

Mendy is our first, second and third choice, their are/were other options but they are not cutting the mustard. Valuation between the clubs still out of whack, Mbappe complicates the situation as Caen are not desperate for any fee they can get their hands on, player wants to go, so Caen will sell eventually. I really thought the deal would be done by now, but it seems they'll wait (Caen) until the last minute and hope we suddenly offer more money.

I predict he'll sign on deadline day and until then we'll see some combination of Mayenda and Rusyn play upfront for us in the league games.

Hope to be proven wrong but I think he will never be a ale to function as a 9 on this league and isn’t as good as other options elsewhere in the side
I agree, Rusyn hasn't shown much when played as a 9 - especially when starting. It is a squad game though so he might (or needs to) find a way to make an impact. Whether that's being a poacher off the bench, creating space with his movement or getting some assists.

Simply isn’t true. People were desperate for us to sign him. Starting well enhanced that, didn’t start it.

Fair play he’d played for Exeter, who seem to know how to shape a striker.

The transfer window closes on August 30th, that means we'll play 3 games (Cardiff, Sheff Wed and Burnley) before it does, three games of Mayenda/Rusyn starting as a 9. It's not that bad, we can deal with that.

Who knows, Rusyn might grab an early goal or two as well. He will look a lot better player with more confidence.
I like Rusyn enthusiasm and work rate
However I don’t think that will be enough for him to start
I would like him to come on and make some impact maybe gain some confidence
Then we can see if he can move on and be a force for us
Time for him is running out

He's obviously not a true striker, certainly not the type to hang around the penalty spot waiting for crosses to head in. He is good at hounding defenders and the keeper whilst they're in possession though, I imagine him playing against a tiring defence, who aren't the best at keeping possession is a scenario where he would thrive and capitalise on a mistake.

I'm not sure where he will end up, he will have stiff competition at LW when Clarke goes (Mundle, Ba), and AMC (Jobe, Rigg, Aouchiche) there are also people ahead of him. Who knows, I like him but I'm struggling to see him winning a starting birth anywhere in the team.

I think he'd be a good 2nd striker. He works hard, chases lost causes and creates space for others.
Sadly no-one plays with 2 strikers these days...

I've always thought, rightly or wrongly, that we signed him as a potential replacement for Clarke.

Sunderland have reportedly fended off interest in Jobe Bellingham from Serie A side Lazio....

The teenager has been linked with several prospective suitors in recent weeks, including Premier League outfit Crystal Palace, but it is Marco Baroni’s side who have emerged as shock admirers of late.

Last month, Il Messaggero, as relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, suggested that Lazio had made initial contact with Sunderland to enquire about Bellingham’s availability after a move for ex-Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood collapsed.

At the time, the Rome club were reportedly told that the Black Cats value the 18-year-old at around £12.9 million, and that price tag is now substantiated further by Corriere della Sera.

According to the Italian outlet, Lazio were informed of Bellingham’s asking price, and have since been waiting for Sunderland to lower their demands before pursuing a concrete approach for the midfielder. Since the Black Cats have held firm, however, it is understood that their continental counterparts are ready to quell their interest, with the player moving ‘further and further away’ from a transfer.

As far back as early June, reports have claimed that Sunderland intend to hang on to Bellingham during the current transfer window. In an update addressing apparent interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford, and the aforementioned Palace, The Guardian suggested that the Black Cats are ‘determined not to sell’, as well as stating that Bellingham’s actual valuation may lie closer to the £20 million mark in the estimation of club chiefs.

We all know he's not going as clubs haven't reached the selling price.
