Think Embo can probably play Championship, but not at the level we are aiming for.

My core memory remains one of our own lads scoring an absolute raker at the home of football to send us on our way up. I’m keeping it that way and will follow his career and hope he has a good one. He will.

We don't have to play with a (traditional) 9. There's no law about it.
Made the playoff semis without one. Poor league finish last season was down to more factors than just the lack of a centre forward.
I'm expecting a signing and a loan to compete for the 9 position who'll be there to pull the defence around.
I'd hope the goals are shared around with him, the wings and midfield taking advantage of the spaces.

Exactly imo last year’s poor finish is more about the fact that 2 headless chickens were put in charge from end of January and less about the players they had at their disposal. Mowbray had to go but we just went in the wrong direction afterwards
Because we then lost the only other player who could score goals through injury. I’d like to think that the club are well aware of getting striker, as we don’t just don’t have enough goals in that squad. Hence why we are being linked with them. We don’t really see, sorry we didn’t really see a change in the way we played because there was no alternative.If we don’t buy a striker then we will have to address that.
A point about when we reached the play off semis, was that we did have players doing a good job as a 9 at different points of the season in Stewart, Simms and Gelhardt.
No one's saying we shouldn't sign a striker. But people are going on like the club are deliberately trying to avoid signing one or are incapable of signing one. Which is patently nonsense.
I played a small part in helping a Step 4 side sign a striker last season and even at that level it's difficult. Everyone wants one. In the end the choice came down to a young(ish) lad who hadn't fulfilled his potential and a veteran who was past his best. Not a great choice and this was for a biggish club in their division but you can't just magic them out of thin air. Your only other choice is to overspend. And who wants another Grigg situation?
We signed 4 strikers last summer, to suggest the club are ignoring the situation is just plain wrong. The only player to score more goals in Ukraine in 22/23 than Rusyn is about to move to Atletico or Roma for over £40m. Hemir was a 6ft4 Benfica academy graduate with a good record at youth level. Burstow was a PL loan who Chelsea spent a decent fee on. Mayenda was a value signing considering the situation Sochaux were in. Are they good enough? No. But I see us being linked to very similar types of signings now and people are happy with it.
We’ve spent £5m on Hemir, Mayenda and Rusyn. Boro spent that on Lathh.. how much are people expecting us to spend on a striker who’s not 18 and has experience at a decent level out of curiosity? The teams we expect to be around if we’re to push play offs have all spent decent money on strikers it’s a risk you take.
You can’t just always go back to the Grigg situation it was 5 years ago. How many PL/Champ clubs have wasted money on flops? Much more than £3m anarl. That can’t stop you ever spending again. You trust that the scouts get it right and find the player who’ll fit our system.
If we signed Lath our fans would've been extremely sceptical. Only good season was in the Swiss league which is very poor. Not exactly an experienced or proven player.
Vipotnik, Mendy and others linked are fine, will definitely do a better job than the forwards we currently have but I just don't see how they are going to make that much of a difference. Especially when clubs we are competing with are signing better strikers. Until we move into the next bracket of signing we will not progress that much. The only way to do that is to sell and reinvest. All our competition for next season are doing it, why aren't we?

Not hard to sign a striker but definitely hard to get one that fits and scores for you. Definitely easier if you have cash to spend though. Will keep banging the sell to reinvest drum until we actually do it.
And likewise no one mentioned another Grigg situation, why does it have to be? it doesn’t, no one mentions another Phillips situation or perhaps another’s Sleeves situation, (loved him). And I’m not sure why you picked my response to suggest that others claim the club are deliberately avoiding signing one when there is no indication of me saying that at all. I even went as far to say that the fact that we are being linked with them, proves they know we need one.
Your original quote was along the lines of it not being law to sign a striker, and included that the poor finish was down to more factors than just not having a striker, for me the main one was losing Clarke through injury, again reinforcing my point that irrespective of what they want to call themselves we need to find someone who can contribute more goals.
He didn’t really until the second half of the season and by then our fans would have been calling him lazy and ****
