Yeah I might not be explaining myself very well. And obviously I wasn't there so not saying you're wrong.

I think its fine for the club to say that if the right player becomes available at the right price, we will sign them. And don't need a sale to do so.

My point though is that that scenario is very very very unlikely to happen. As getting the right player for the right price isn't likely. They'll either be not the right player, or not the right price.

The reality is we'll likely have to end up signing either not the right player (like we did last summer) or sign the right player at an inflated price (which will probably need a sale).

But if a club does make a player available at a sensible price then we won't.
Its a fair point you make and we clearly and rightly wont sign any player for the sake of it.

I came away from last night quietly confident we will keep the players we want to keep unless they decide to leave or we get absolutely silly offers.

Again, that's my interpretation of what Speakman said when talking about it.

I got the impression from last night that if the right player becomes available they wouldn't hesitate to spend the money.

It felt to me that it wasn't dependent on sales either

I've never felt like KLD/Speakman wouldn't spend if they were to get value for money, not sure why - I know a lot think the opposite but I feel sure they'd spend a decent wedge if it was a good short and long term investment.

As I say the impression I got was nothing is dependent on sales if the right player that ticks all the boxes is available.

Just how I have interpreted what was said, could be massively wrong on my part
I wasn't at the talk so have no idea what was said other than that reported on here, but I've said before (and was shot down), I have always had the feeling that funds would be made available for the right player, without any sale.

Concurred!

Overly simplistic to just say those four equal one player. It's true to an extent, but then you need to start talking about the effects on wage budget - and more importantly wage ceiling. One massive marquee signing that is well above the levels of the others we have across the squad would tend to go hand in hand with a budget busting wage. And that will bring with it a queue of existing squad members looking for a pay rise.

Totally agree it is a simplistic way of looking at it

Agree with this, but for an 18 year old, first season playing out of position at times ,I think there's more to come and he will have a good career
Watched under21’s quite a bit and all you could hear were the coaches shouting””hemir move. Hemir run” was not very interested in putting a shift in. There is a player in there. Hope we can motivate him

To be fair to hemir when he was getting minutes at the end of games last season he looked ok. We've all seen him proper grafting in the off season so fingers crossed Regis can work with him get him proper motivated and he can kick on.
Don't get your hopes up, he's been touted for a loan. I just hope he's game.

I dunno why but I still really like Hemir, often wonder if one of his early chances went in how he would have faired, if he can’t be arsed though then it’s right to move him on
He is a likeable lad and I think lots of us were willing him to score. Some players just enjoy running (Ross Stewart and Shane Long for instance) and it's obvious Hemir is naturally not one of them. That's what we need from a CF though. Hemir is supposed to have put a lot of work in this summer so let's see what he looks like in preseason. If he's not at it then a loan, definitely.

Said it at the time and got a bit of stick but I still think giving him the number 9 shirt was utterly stupid and putting unnecessary pressure on him.

Clear for all to see the service into him was piss poor he’s just an easier target to pin the blame on. Hopefully kick on this season under the new manager or get a loan, although I’m not too sure how he’d fair on loan he’s still only getting to grips with life here.

Agree with that, shirt number heightened expectations coupled with a few goals against poor opposition (Mallorca aside) then bombed out the team after one start, I don’t think we did him any favours

Simms wasn’t really a runner either and worked in our systems, just about finding a way to get the ball into him/play to his strengths l, I’d like to see him hang around until as late as possible then we can loan him if needs be

This is what bugged me more than anything. People screaming at him to press when nobody else is pressing. He’s f*cking 6’4 and built like a proper 6’4 gadgee, he’s not a spindly thing like Stewart who’ll run all day. Go and watch Haaland tell me how much he presses or how many touches of the ball he has, same goes with Lukaku. The amount of energy they’d waste aimlessly pressing is just not worth it. If we wanted a player to do that then that’s our problem for signing the wrong type of player.

It almost felt like we were going out of our way to knock his confidence, you don't play a young striker and haul them off for missing one shot. Fancy him to crack on this season with Reggie in charge.
