Dont think he would have been captain if there was a high chance of him leaving this summer
If there's prem interest in January and he's not agreed a new deal, he'll be off, imo.

Pure profit for the club.

The bar has been set.

Disappointing to wake up and see we've accepted a pretty poor fee for Clarke. Hopefully Mendy, Simic, and Isidor all come in and do well.

£15-£20m for Clarke is a joke. Players of far less ability have gone for much higher fees.

the owners are obviously desperate for cash to fund strikers. We have had our pants down and been shafted when we have to give a good proportion of that to spurs. We are as weak as water.

No ambition whatsoever, they should learn something from Ipswich. In div 3 after us and now taking our best player for peanuts.

This is key here, the daggers are back out for the club and people aren’t thinking clearly. We want a quality striker ? We needed to sell at the right price for clarkes experience.

As others have already put, if we didn’t sell this year it’s likely to be less next year. All about managing risks

The daggers are out for the club because a lot of fans see Premier League clubs throw millions around and want to be part of it.

I don't think we've ever been lied to about the ambitions of the ownership. It's to get back to the Premier League but within the parameters of being sustainable and growing over time.

Fans who aren't happy have 1 of 2 perspectives imo:

1) They don't care about the sustainable part, they want a billionaire owner to throw money at us.

2) They think that the sustainability factor should be secondary and only reviewed when we are in the Premier League.

I understand the viewpoint of the latter but I don't think they're being totally honest with themselves. They'd keep kicking the sustainability can down the road year on year.

Personally, I love that we're doing it slightly different. We are not a club that can compete with the top 8 in this country on spending. So we have to see if we can do it in the long term by finding value that others can't.

Seems harsh. It's seems to echo the vast vast majority of what fans are saying in social media.

I mean most said this would be rejected and laughted at the initial 15m.

It was accepted.

So I wouldn't be too scathing on Barnes.
I’m still furious with the fee, it’s like we’ve just bent over for Ipswich and went there you go, deal of the summer for them.

I thought with the way we stood our ground with LND we would’ve done the same for Clarke. Furious isn’t the word

Great move by Clarke guaranteed first team football in the prem and it's also a stepping stone onto bigger clubs.
We still make money for our project job done.
We have Mundle, Rusyn, Poveda and Watson to challenge for Clarke position.
The other side to this is Clarke may flop and Ipswich get relegated.

What a good post.

Don't think we'll get Mendy personally
Granted I know next to nothing about all 3 strikers linked but he’s the least exciting of the lot for me, younger lads with higher ceiling are my preference, I’d never given it any thought until felltop mentioned it yesterday but striking isn’t a good look either, probably take him 6 weeks to get up to speed too

Exactly this

N how much the sell on % is, wonder if theyve accepted a lower fee but got a big sell on % included in it thatll boost the fee

Be funny if he turns down the move - he wont but we can dream

I reckon theyll have a few lined up with that money

Time for Mundle to shine now, hes def got the ability to do it but as RLB said he has to find that consistency that Clarke has

According to some on social media the season is over already!!
£15m won’t go far when we have to give a good proportion of that to Spurs.

We have been weak as water in negotiations however you want to dress it up. £25m most supporters would have accepted. £15m up front is a joke and shows how desperate the owners are for funds to sign a striker and inept Speakman is in negotiating.

It’s poor.

Good luck to Clarke. He stayed professional throughout. Hats off to him.

15m up front is a rumour. We'll probably never know as final fee probably undisclosed. But whether it 15 or 20 , happy that we got it now rather than on deadline day.

If we've got a decent sell on clause, then that's even better.

Wonder if we put a buy back clause in, in case they get relegated and we go up ? Lol

Neither disappointed nor pleased by the news of Clarke and the fee. Have to see how the club act/react in the market and how it impacts the season.

Mundle/Poveda need to step uph. The club do need to strengthen, clearly. Can't say I know anything about this Simic lad, he seems to be getting an alarmingly positive reaction.

Is it though ? If the guy was proven and had premiership experience it would be a deal of the summer but essentially what they have bought is a very good championship player

aye that’s what I got, just a £60 quid one from Amazon and some ice moulds, chlorines tablets and a floater.

eventually want to upgrade to a bigger one with a chiller attached but got this to see if I would keep up with it, which I have.

didn’t want to belive in the benefits of it but absolutely do, couldn’t recommend them more.

If its got a floater you need a net to scoop it out and try going before you get in :emoticon-0148-yes: <laugh>

It’s poor.

We sold Stewart, who hasn't even played for Southampton yet, for 10 to 12 million

Bloody good negotiation that imo

Deal for JC not disclosed, 15m could be initial bid but could have gotten an improved one but we'll never know.

Sell on clause is good.

And as been pointed out before, prefer to get a little less today than more on deadline day and not have time to spend it
